Duo Likely To Feature Against Chelsea With Bruce Reportedly Disappointed In Player’s Impact

We would expect that both Matty and Sean Longstaff will keep their place at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Matty provided Newcastle with an energetic spark in the rebound win against Manchester United.

Sean also rebounded to have his best game of the young season. He showed glimpses of the form displayed last season when he propelled himself into the national spotlight.

With Isaac Hayden being suspended, Bruce really doesn’t have a tricky decision to make at Chelsea. Newcastle will play the same counter-attacking game they played against Manchester United and that doesn’t suit either Jonjo Shelvey or Ki Sung-yueng. Both Shelvey and Ki have been big disappointments this season.

The Northern Echo have a report stating that Steve Bruce was very disappointed with Ki’s lack of an impact when coming on against Leicester City. He was also underwhelming in his lone start of the season against Norwich City.

While he hasn’t had too much time on the pitch this season playing only 136 minutes, when he has come on he has been just a passenger.

The Northern Echo report also states that Bruce will in fact keep Matty Longstaff in the team for Chelsea. Keeping the brothers together in the midfield just seems like a no-brainer to us.

Given that the thug Jordan Henderson got yet another game for England last night and yet, except for an early assault on a Bulgarian player, was completely anonymous against a dreadful team, there really does appear to be a Longstaff-shaped hole in the England squad. Who was the last Geordie to play for England? Michael Carrick?

Highly unlikely Southgate will drop one of his favourite players to play Longstaff , especially as Southgate normally promotes players who played in the U21s under him. ( Also the fact Sean hasn’t actually played that well since injury (man u game aside )

Takeover talk fever – not sure who he’s talking to but it’s clearly nobody in Newcastle , nobody believes a word anymore

I really hope we’re not over-hyping young Matty and putting too much pressure on him to do well. It would be absolutely typical of football that he gives away a penalty and/or gets a red card!

Think the best way to get anything at Chelsea is to attack , they are weak defensively but have a lot of goals in them , I fear that if we just sit back and defend we could get a battering …

It will be interesting to see how Matty handles playing against Kante as opposed to the likes of the underwhelming Fred in the previous game. It’s a big step up.

Shelvey should have been moved on this summer, Matt Ritchie should have been offered a new deal or moved on. Lots of things should have happened but unfortunately didn’t.

Assuming that ManU are going to get thumped at home by Liverpool this weekend and that we could (and should) get a draw at Chelsea then we are likely be on the same points as Manure and one place below them on goal difference.

Of course, if we were to win then we would be a few places ahead of them at around 12th. and they could be hovering above the relegation zone. It’s no wonder that OGS has aged so much this year.

    Bring it on.

    Pain in the Blog,
Being better than Man U these days is like pulling the best looking girl in your year at school but only thirty years later after she’s had four kids and a lifetime of substance addiction. (From twitter)

Pain in the Blog – I said at the beginning of the season I thought OGS would be the first Premiership manager to be sacked. It would be tough expecting a win against Liverpool but then after that in the Premiership they play Norwich,

Mindshaft @13 I agree he’s the guy for the job. Although Shelvey and Ki are both fit, he’d still be my pick. If Hayden hadn’t been banned, it would have left Bruce with a dilema. Chelsea away just sounds like the kind of game where you’d want Hayden in there doing what he’s best at. However it would be really unfair to drop Matty especially after his MoM performance last week.

Let hope he has another good one. It’s a learning curve for him.

Jail – the second Norwich should have been Brighton and in between they’ve got some tough EL games and a EFL cup game against Chelsea. If he is given the boot will we see Catchy again?

Jib, very good re Mark Wood. How about Mark Wilson, England Number 8 at the World Cup?

Not born in Newcastle, but a graduate of the Falcons Academy so an honorary Geordie at least.

I was one of the folk who got all excited about the possible takeover talk earlier this year.

I ended up madly disappointed that it did not come about and that we also lost Rafa!

However, as much as I’d like the new talk & possibilities of a takeover to come to life I’m not holding my breath yet!!!

    🙂
