Manager Steven Pressley has spoken after Carlisle United’s win against Blackpool in the EFL Trophy Tuesday night. Newcastle striker Elias Sorensen made just his third start for Carlisle in the 2-1 win.

During his interview, Pressley brought up the 20-year-old Dane when speaking about the work-rate of his team. This is what the manager said about Sorensen at the 1:15 mark in the above interview:
“The work ethic of the group. If you look at young Elias Sorensen tonight. In the first half, he worked exceptionally hard and at times, didn’t get his rewards. But he kept doing it and doing it.
“I thought he did exceptional in the second half. I’m really pleased with the way he’s coming around and how he’s progressed. I thought he gave a really good performance tonight”
The interviewer then asked Pressley if he had said anything to Sorensen since he seemed to be playing a lot more boldly in this game:
“He’s showed great bravery. But you see in football, it’s amazing that the harder you work, the better you perform. That’s the bottom line. I think that’s one of the things that he’s truly added to his game is his out of possession work.
“We’ve worked a lot on that with him. On his understanding of his role and responsibility without the ball. He’s doing it to great effect. As the game grew, he got stronger and stronger. So I’m really pleased with his performance tonight.”
Elias is taking baby steps at Carlisle, but he is still moving forward. It may not be at the pace we expect, but these are positive indications that Sorensen is learning his craft.
The 20-year-old made similar leaps in his performance during his last start for Carlisle three weeks ago. This is what Pressley had to say then:
“I was really pleased with the improvements in some of our players.
“I just spoke with Shola Ameobi regarding Elias. He has just called me, and that’s the hardest he’s ever seen him work.
“He worked tirelessly tonight, and that’s real improvement in the kid since he’s come in here. I’ve had a couple of good conversations with him.
“I’ve spoken to him about a number of things. For me, his response has been excellent. So that was really encouraging.”
Let’s hope Elias can build on this performance. He is learning what it takes to be a professional. While he’ll need to get into the Carlisle team for league matches sooner rather than later, he is at least showing some serious signs of improvement.

Comment #3Sad that people need alt accounts to back themselves up.
Very sad indeed.
Should take a look at your life if your doing that on an nufc blog.

Comment #6It would be interesting to know who the alts are. I doubt it is as one sided as everyone being Jib. I guess if it has been dealt with, we will be able to work out who has gone, but it wouldn’t give us the ‘masterminds’ behind them.

IrishRob – More than one person seemed to have concerns regarding me editing posts, so that’s why I addressed “Everyone” and not you directly. It wasn’t meant as a slight against you; I was being inclusive. ?
geordietom – I saw your questions. All I’ll say is that alts have been found and Neil and I have done the best we can to deal with that issue.

I truly don’t have an alt.
However I do think those that bang on
all the time about alts are probably the guilty ones.

Comment #10There seems to be a bit of turmoil at Chelsea at the
moment – they have a bit of a defensive crisis – and
Jorginho and Giroud are “unhappy” and talking about
leaving in January.
All helpful to the NUFC cause.

Comment #11After the England 21 match Callum Hudson-Odoi had an ice pack on his thigh and walked gingerly to have an after-match interview on the pitch.
Is this grasping at straws

Comment #13The Wife………….. Thanks for confirming that Jib has been operating on the blog with numerous alts. This is is something that most of us knew anyway as the evidence was overwhelming.
I realise that you and Neil have decided to deal with this issue in house which I suppose makes sense, however out of morbid curiosity I think we would like to have some idea how many versions of “Jib” we have Beeb engaging with so is it :-
A) Between 1 and 5
B) Between 5 and 10
C) More than 10
I think it would be useful to know so that we can get some closure on this. Thank You for a great blog.
