BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has given his weekly predictions for the Premier League fixtures this weekend. Mark has Chelsea defeating Newcastle 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. Here is his prediction in full.
Newcastle’s win over Manchester United was such a good day for Magpies manager Steve Bruce, the Longstaff brothers, the fans – everyone at the club.
It is going to be hard for them to build on that victory against Chelsea, though. The Blues have won their past four games, and it looks like they have turned the corner.
For some reason, we are quite confident that Newcastle will do well against Chelsea on Saturday. While Chelsea have won their last four matches in all competitions, they are coming off of an international break in which two players, Andreas Christensen and N’Golo Kante, have suffered injuries.
Chelsea also had 11 regulars playing for their respective countries during the break, while Newcastle only had a handful. Due to that, we are hoping the lads will be well prepared to face Chelsea.
Newcastle may also be able to channel the momentum from the ‘good day,’ as Lawrenson puts it, and carry that into the weekend. Jamaal Lascelles certainly seems to think the lads are still confident after the Manchester United performance. He said earlier that he fancies Newcastle’s chances.
We also think Newcastle stand a good chance to get a result on Saturday. It’ll be a tough one, no doubt, but Newcastle tend to be up for these types of fixtures.
How Will Newcastle Do At Chelsea On Saturday?
- Lose (46%, 583 )
- Draw (28%, 354 )
- Win (25%, 318 )

Comment #43We have a great squad, but no goalscorers. So I’m going to go 1-0 Chelsea. Joelinton & Almiron won’t get 10 goals between them. Maybe 10 goals if you include Maximin. Joelinton scored more than half his goals last season in a glut so I suspect somewhere along the line he’ll bang in 2 or 3 in a short space then. His problem is I think he’s only scored 4 times in the last 12 months in a team that were scoring 2 or 3 per game, so I can’t see many more than 5 here. These are all very good players but need to play with a goal getter. I’d take Mitrovic now. Looking at our main problem it was inevitable that Matty L was going to get a game sooner or later as he is the only player in our squad with goals on his CV and he showed in pre season he can score against decent opposition.

Comment #44Chelsea’s youth system is amazing. It would be interesting to see how much they spend a year, and how much they make from selling players or gaining ÂŁ50m+ players like Mount and Abraham. I’m guessing they make a huge profit. Ashley and Charnley should look at Chelsea, Spurs, etc and try to make our academy the 7th best in the land not just better than Sunderland’s. Sticking to local players is a recipe for disaster as a world class geordie only comes through every 20 years and very good ones usually every 10 years and a Dummet/ Ameobi every 5 years. Other clubs like Everton are regularly bringing one good player through per year. I think we’ve just got a bit lucky with the Longstaffs. Charnley shouldn’t think we are going to get a Longstaff every few years just because 2 come through this year. It seems a policy of ‘Let’s just hope we get lucky,’ and there’s no reason we can’t produce great geordies while also producing great players from further afield. We should be mining Scotland for talent for starters.

You where asking about the fa and prem league the other day.
Well they were asked, had correspondence with them.
Personally i think they know they have screwed up with ashley but to protect the integrity of the fit and proper owners test and that they haven’t made a bad decision (passing ashley as fit and proper)
They dont want to admit they are wrong.
They should take the club off him.
He is anti sport, anti football.
For a sports brand owner and apparent sports fan, i dont think he undestands sport. The point of sport is to compete and win.
Just look at this year man, the league is setup for a surprise this year.

You are too quick to condemn Joelinton
You bemoaned the loss of Rondon
yet he didn’t score until our 12th game of the season
(a brace vs Bournemouth at SJP)
AND
he had previous experience of English footy

If we had of got abraham when rafa wanted he would have already been sold.
But for mega money.
After a successful spell with us.
Rondon should of had his last years with us.
Gutted i asked him and rafa to come back home yesterday.

Comment #56Is Brucie ever going to have the balls to drop Linton for Gayle or is Carroll ever going to be fit enough to start, the trouble is with the purple policy is it places no importance on competition for places. Once Churnley has is way and the likes of Fernandez and Clarke are moved on they won’t be replaced because we already have another four CB’s. Grant Hanley is a perfect example, he might not have played much but he kept Ciaran Clarke in sparkling for most of the season. Joelinton is a guaranteed starter no matter how much of a stinker he plays.

Comment #62My picks out of that list would be in no particular order:
Shaun wade.
Michael Mannion.
Chris Heron.
And Alex Hurst.
The first 3 are 100 percent dedicated to ashleyout.
Alex has done alot of hard work at the nust already.
Makes sense for him to stay on as him and Shaun have put alot of work into the nust.
Shaun wade is the lad from this
https://youtu.be/YdFWEwzT5cw
He also stuck an ashleyout sign on ashley bentley at the agm. He is class. Dedicated to the cause. He is 100 percent the dedicated to the betterment of nufc.
Chris heron was the lad speaking on the mic boycott arsenal. He is wor flags. He is 100 percent passion for the club. He only has nufc and newcastle in his heart.

Comment #63Not football related but a warning and a laugh for most of you.
Lifes hectic atm pretty much work work work, managed to go for a couple of pints and a walk along the quayside.
Around 10 last night my dog decided to jump from the quayside into the river, like a idiot I jumped in.
I hadn’t thought how I’d get out, lol, so after 15mins of treading water trying to get out a couple of passers by threw a rope down so I could pull myself and the dog out.
Cuts bruises wounded ego, extremely stupid all things considered, funny now but I’ve been extremely lucky.
True what they say, look before you leap.
Be careful folks

Comment #70Given we regard tomorrow as a free hit, I would rest Schar and depending on when he got back to Newcastle, Almiron too.
Bring in Fernandez and Atsu for them. Hope Bruce has had similar thinking and has been working on a plan on basis of starting with the players who have been present throughout the break. May be our best advantage.
Hopefully Kante hasn’t recovered sufficiently from his injury too.

Comment #72I’d love to see Carroll start against Chelsea and see what he can do, when hes got more time and playing with a fresh team. Bring Joelinton on for the last 30min, it changes things up and Joelinton might come on with a bit more fight in him, rather than starting and just sauntering through the game.

Comment #73Resting Schar is complete madness, and looking at any game other than City or Pool games as free hits is madness too, especially Chelsea, they are very beatable without Kante. I agree completely with Almiron though, he could benefit from being brought on later in the game.

You have either deliberately lied regarding the amount of games Rondon played before scoring to discredit him or haven’t got a clue what you’re talking about, both suggestions are highly plausible. Surely any remaining credibility you do have has vanished in a puff of smoke, the fact that you questioned my maths just makes you look like an even bigger tw@t if that is at all possible.
