Newcastle released images from training yesterday and there were a couple of interesting items of note that was noticed.

The first is that Florian Lejeune was not featured in any of the photographs that were released. While this may mean absolutely nothing, the club generally do a very thorough job of making sure every player involved is featured at least once.
However, every indication is that the 28-year-old is making excellent progress in his recovery from his second knee injury. Florian had returned to team training a few weeks ago so he may have just had the day off.
The other interesting detail was that Allan Saint-Maximin was not involved in the team activities. There was a lone picture of the Frenchman running by himself but none of him with the group.
The Chronicle’s Ciaran Kelly has a possible explanation for Saint-Maximin not being involved with the rest of the lads:
Before the Leicester game, I was told by Allan Saint-Maximin’s camp that his hamstring is fine but it will take him time to discover ‘the rhythm’.
I know a few fans have been concerned when they have not seen Saint-Maximin in the club’s training galleries, for example, but I would not be worried too much by that.
After he suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury at Spurs in August , Newcastle have been careful not to rush the Frenchman back as he has not previously had issues with muscle injuries before.
Saint-Maximin has been working closely with rehabilitation fitness coach Cristian Fernandez and has been building up his fitness following a disrupted pre-season; last week, for example, he was doing some solo work on the treadmill.
So it looks like there’s nothing to be concerned about with Allan Saint-Maximin as the club is just taking extra precautions to ensure his availability at the weekend.
As for Florian Lejeune, we have no idea why he was not involved in Wednesday’s training session. We hope he has not suffered a set-back but it’s likely nothing of significance.
Though we should note that when Allan Saint-Maximin suffered his initial hamstring problem in the week leading to the Norwich City match, he also was not featured in that week’s training images. There was no word that he had a problem until a few days later.
