Two Things We Noticed From Released Images Of Wednesday’s Training

Newcastle released images from training yesterday and there were a couple of interesting items of note that was noticed.

The first is that Florian Lejeune was not featured in any of the photographs that were released. While this may mean absolutely nothing, the club generally do a very thorough job of making sure every player involved is featured at least once.

However, every indication is that the 28-year-old is making excellent progress in his recovery from his second knee injury. Florian had returned to team training a few weeks ago so he may have just had the day off.

The other interesting detail was that Allan Saint-Maximin was not involved in the team activities. There was a lone picture of the Frenchman running by himself but none of him with the group.

The Chronicle’s Ciaran Kelly has a possible explanation for Saint-Maximin not being involved with the rest of the lads:

Before the Leicester game, I was told by Allan Saint-Maximin’s camp that his hamstring is fine but it will take him time to discover ‘the rhythm’.

I know a few fans have been concerned when they have not seen Saint-Maximin in the club’s training galleries, for example, but I would not be worried too much by that.

After he suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury at Spurs in August , Newcastle have been careful not to rush the Frenchman back as he has not previously had issues with muscle injuries before.

Saint-Maximin has been working closely with rehabilitation fitness coach Cristian Fernandez and has been building up his fitness following a disrupted pre-season; last week, for example, he was doing some solo work on the treadmill.

So it looks like there’s nothing to be concerned about with Allan Saint-Maximin as the club is just taking extra precautions to ensure his availability at the weekend.

As for Florian Lejeune, we have no idea why he was not involved in Wednesday’s training session. We hope he has not suffered a set-back but it’s likely nothing of significance.

Though we should note that when Allan Saint-Maximin suffered his initial hamstring problem in the week leading to the Norwich City match, he also was not featured in that week’s training images. There was no word that he had a problem until a few days later.

    Genji,

    You said earlier….

“The price is set by that redbubble.
The magpie group get paid an artist fee for their artwork.
Redubble sell and distribute the items.”

Is that standard business practice? Do you have an exclusivity agreement? do you get more than 7p in the pound?

    Sorry….couldn’t resist 😀

Last game was brill to watch in Florida sports bar.

Not sure how we will fair with Chelsea game…..sometimes think we have turned a corner and then another cold performance happens with no luck on our side to counter a bad day at the office.

Chelsea will score some even though they tend to concede.
Could be a high scoring game decided by ref / VAR?

    Anyway, more wine needed.

    Very good.
Sadly for some we have not entered into a contract with ashley so we get a bit more than the standard business practice of 7p per pound and sadly no exclusivity rights (even though ashley doesnt have them the sly git has worded his contract with rangers where he technically does have it)

Btw international fans well done. 2 mugs and a travel cup to the usa. And a mug is getting sent to Aus.
    The Magpie Group is international.
NYmag are you the usa buyer?
Tell the truth you love your ashleyout mug.

Just our luck that hes never suffered from muscle problems before. Then we buy him and he does.
Is it cause we are used to the cold air that we dont notice it? Or does the fog on the tyne really affect people from out of the area?

Neil – I’m pretty sure Jib posted a link to training photos yesterday and in some of them ASM was training with the rest of the lads!
Also I noticed Atsu was there even though nufc.com had him playing in Africa tonight (they’ve deleted that now) unless he has a twin brother

Apart from a season in Germany when he was 18
    (he only played 16 games)
ASM has played and trained in the South of France
or Corsica where the ground tends to be much drier
    and firmer.
In fact when he was at Hannover 96 he wasn’t even
in the squad for their last dozen games which makes
you think maybe he had soft ground issues then.

Decent 11 when we will have Lejeune available, and Carroll on the bench. Need goals from midfield though, the Longstaffs, St Max and Almiron must also chime in with goals, and they are capable.

Don’t agree that Lascelles is undroppable. I think we’d be a slightly better side with Fernandez in it.

This 11, with Carroll on the bench, would seem to have the most goals in it I think, although it’s asking a lot of young Matty Longstaff at this fledgling stage of his career.

    …………………..Dubravka.
    ………Scharr….Fernandez..Lejeune.
    Manquillo…….S Longstaff…………..Willems
    ……St Max………M Longstaff…..Almiron.
    ………………….Joelinton.

Hayden and Ritchie the most obvious players to force their way back in as far as I can tell, although what you gain in midfield bite with Hayden you lose with goal threat.

Manquillo, Yedlin or Krafth. All similar in quality on balance. Krafth I believe will prove more solid defensively, Yedlin offer the most threat going forward, and Manquillo the best option in terms of team play, in my opinion.

Nicky @20 – I’m never sure about Manquillo – in some games he has looked really good but in others he has been given the run around and yellow carded for a stupid foul.

Yeah Martoon, he has had occasional poor moments, although you have to recognize the whole side has at times. To me he’s a player with another level in him and is a proper footballer in terms of technique and how he reads the the game and acts as a link in moves, as opposed to Krafth who is perhaps a bit more prosaic and Yedlin who essentially relies mostly on his great pace. Bruce I think is leaning toward the other two, but I think Manquillo will come again, or move on to greater success elsewhere.

Jib………. Pleeeeease St Max is not a kin racehorse man. Hard ground preference and doesn’t like the soft, I’ve heard it all now. If he was going to be affected by underfoot conditions then the jarr from firm ground would be more likely to affect his joints and muscles than the cushioning effect of softer ground. What are you on ?

It’s probably parking charges or who is turning on the Christmas lights, just hoped it might be something re planning permission around Strawberry place.

    There’s only you mentioned jarring

His injuries have been predominantly hamstrings
The worst being in the 17th minute versus Spurs
when he chased a Ritchie (I think) through pass
    to the Spurs goal line.

He twisted badly – hence my thoughts on studs in soft ground.

On the Shearer comments re: Bruce needs money in Jan to spend – given that they are very good mates , wonder if Bruce has said something to him re: players not being able to play his way and wanting to change the squad.
Clearly all supposition on my part but players such as Hayden and Lascelles who told Bruce they wanted to play Rafa style could be sold in Jan so Bruce can buy ?

Jib…….He has no history of hamstring injuries and his hamstring issues here were due to a one off incident . To try and backtrack the issue to training on soft pitches in Germany and then a subsequent avoidance of training on a soft pitch is at best far fetched and at worst nonsense .

I’ve a feeling that Bruce will play Yedlin in home games because of the pace and excitement he can inject along with his greater goal threat, and either the more defensive minded Kraft or Manquillo in tough looking away games like the one on Saturday.
Chelsea are scoring for fun at the moment and I expect a pretty dour defensive battle from us, with, hopefully, a nicked goal winner.

    Weasel,
Hence is very much used in the modern English language, you don’t even see the word twixt in The Game of Thrones book, it is very much a word used only by you “and” Jeff from Benwell when trying to make yourself sound posh but only succeeding in making a tw@t of yourself and exposing your former alias.
