Is This Player In Line For His First Start?

Yesterday when we did our predicted line-up for Chelsea, we had an unchanged side from the win against Manchester United.

However, we did waiver a bit on two players that we thought could come into the team. One of those was Emil Krafth for DeAndre Yedlin. Emil has not gone two straight matches this season without starting.

When he was dropped for the Brighton match, he was straight back in against Leicester City. While he has not performed particularly well, with him being a new signing, he is still adjusting to the Premier League.

DeAndre Yedlin also started for the United States on Tuesday and has just returned from a long-term injury. Therefore, we get the feeling that Bruce could go with Krafth for tomorrow at Chelsea. Though, we would prefer him to stick with Yedlin.

The other player that we feel has a chance to start at Chelsea is striker Andy Carroll. Joelinton struggled a bit against Manchester United, and when Andy came on in the second half, he was a handful for their defenders.

Andy Carroll– making his second debut against Brighton

Andy’s physical play could be perfect against this Chelsea side. They are likely to be without center-backs Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger due to injury. That will leave Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori at the back.

While Zouma is a commanding presence as the back, Tomori certainly is not. Andy could give the 21-year-old a battering tomorrow.

Bruce spoke about Carroll at today’s press conference and the Athletic’s Chris Waugh tweeted his comments:

The issue with Andy is going to be fitness and we are concerned that tomorrow may be too soon for the big man. We still think that Joelinton will get the nod from the start tomorrow but expect Andy to get at least 30 minutes on the pitch.

I checked back on the training pics and there was no sign of big Andy
There could be a perfectly logical explanation – players are often given
days off training – I hope he’s fit

Sorry geordietom but what was that post of yours supposed to clear up. I said Rondon missed half the games in the run up to scoring his first PL goals for us, Jeff the weasel scoffed at that and said he only missed three, then even went on to post a link proving his stupidity.

I thought Jail said SB had worse injury lists because he is a dinosaur and he caused Lobbys ankle injury because he is so backward. Or maybe Jail is a prick weasel who talks out his hole?

As hibbit says we need a goalscorer, how on earth they thought they could sell our three leading goalscorers and replace them with a young kid from a different league who doesn’t score many anyway and a guy who hadn’t played for months, is beyond me.

It seems man u are riddled with injuries but nobody associates their young manager or sports science staff with being behind the times or outdated. Sb got a reprieve by beating a poor man u but its only a reprieve. But its enough to let him go on and hope for the best. I didnt want him here either but now that he is, he gets my backing.

BBC commentator Guy Mowbray’s thoughts on our game

“After such a demanding week I wouldn’t blame Gareth Southgate for taking time off, but if the England manager is going to a Saturday game (and he will) then it’s likely to be this one.
You don’t get many matches with so much young English talent involved – and, yes, after their performances against Manchester United, I’m putting Newcastle’s Longstaff brothers in there with Chelsea’s many young Lions.
Can they do it again? That’s what Steve Bruce is asking of all his players as they bid for a third win against ‘big six’ opponents already this season.
It’s a huge ask against a fledgling Chelsea team that seems to have found its wings quickly. They’ve always been a fashionable club, maybe transfer bans could become trendy?! “

Honestly with Chelsea not having two main defenders I would play both Andy and Joe up front, Zouma would shit his pants having to mark both of those two, big, physical players, Zouma’s worst nightmare.

    Jib,
He wasn’t fully fit and missed half the games, so his goals record simply can’t be compared with Joelintons who has started every game so far.

I honestly am beginning to think something fishy is up with the Joelinton transfer. I dont know how on earth he ever got to a 40M price tag with the amount of goals or assists he scored in Germany.

It’s so weird the way Ashley was sooo keen to get him in that he was willing to give Rafa 20M of his OWN MONEY,(I’ve never even heard of this happening in football before). Almost like he was afraid Rafa would screw up the deal.

I get this nagging feeling either option A, we didnt pay anywhere near 40M for him, although this is hard because the books wouldn’t add up for both clubs and would eventually show up very obviously.

The other option I think has happened is that Joelinton was just a way to pay off a club for underhanded activities, legally. You have a 5-10 million player, you need to pay a club or owner or somone in the set up money for underhanded activities, so you tell the world hes a 40M player.

The club gets their upgraded price and no one can ever prove otherwise.

One thing is obvious he is not a 40M player SO FAR and he never played like a 40M player in his life, not even close to it.

Jail I dont have the time to look up old quotes, unlike you !!! You were deffo on this “bruce’s fitness methods are for dinosaurs”. You slagged off the long run that some players like and I think u mentioned medicine ball. We are all entitled to opinions but you are waiting for Bruce to fail, like your eejit friend Tarquin. And Toon 22. And you call yourselves nufc fans? Toon 22 thought “the Mags” was a mackem slur for goodness sake. 🙂 One of the most ridiculous quotes ever on here. Then Jib put up the pic of the the recent mags flag. Oh how I laughed. 🙂

    Jib,
He started 3 games as he wasn’t fully fit so therefore you simply can’t use his not scoring until the 12th game as a viable yardstick.

Steve Bruce on Matty: ““I don’t think I’ve witnessed as good a debut – not just the goal, but the whole way he played. How could I leave him out (at Chelsea)?”

So, he’s playing then, presumably alongside his brother. You would think that had Kante been around, they would have been under a lot of pressure, but with him injured than they could potentially boss the midfield between them.

If they can show the same levels of effort and composure that they did against Man U, we’ll do well.

Also, in my mind there is no argument – Sean Longstaff and therefore the team as a whole plays much better when Shelvey is not on the pitch. Therefore, Jonjo Shelvey should not be on the pitch for the foreseeable future, unless and until he learns how to be more effective in forward areas and get out of the way of the rest of the team.

Therefore the same applies to Joelinton with his one goal in eight starts
