Lampard Confirms Three Internationals Out For Saturday

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard had his pre-match press conference this morning. He gave the following update on the injury situation for Chelsea.

Both Danish defender Andreas Christensen and French midfielder N’Golo Kante will not be out for the Newcastle match. German defender Antonio Rudiger is also out as he is still recovering from a groin injury.

This is some good news for Newcastle as it leaves just Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori as the center-back partnership. They have played together twice this season – in the 2-2 home draw against Sheffield United and in the 4-1 win at Southampton just before the break.

N’Golo Kante had recovered from an early season ankle injury just last month. It now looks like he will have another spell on the sidelines with a groin injury. Though it does not look like it is too serious.

This is a big opportunity for Newcastle to get something at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. They were able to defeat a depleted Manchester United squad at St James Park. This one, though, will be a much tougher one to pull off.

However, the lads have a golden opportunity to get a result on Saturday if they can replicate their Manchester United performance at Stamford Bridge.

How Will Newcastle Do At Chelsea On Saturday?

  • Lose (46%, 583 )
  • Draw (28%, 354 )
  • Win (25%, 318 )

I’ve already voted. Not going to tell you what I did – I’m still banned by Carltoon

    😉

I do think we could get something from this match, though. It would match our so-far topsy-turvy season to beat Chelsea then fail to win against Wolves, West Ham, Bournemouth and Villa.

Chelsea could be facing a central defensive injury crisis ahead of next weekend’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United.
Andreas Christensen was spotted holding his groin as he limped off during Denmark’s 1-0 win over Switzerland in an Euro 2020 qualifier on Saturday evening and he could be doubtful for club action.
Christensen being injured would leave Blues head coach Frank Lampard down to just two fit senior centre-backs in Fikayo Tomori and Kurt Zouma.
    Fingers crossed

We usually play well against Chelsea, how we could do with Cisses or a Remy.

Chelsea will still have 11 players on the pitch so let’s not be getting too optimistic.

I voted for a win by the way, so I’m hoping not to get a post match rocket from the frightening wee lassie. 😉

Kurt Zouma may be a bit of a beast – he’s 6’4″, but how well does he turn? The likes of Almiron and ASM with their pace might be able to isolate him and cause him some problems.

Of course, that depends on Joelinton / Carroll being able to bring them into play at the business end of the pitch.

I can imagine that conversation going well

Can you get two players further apart in philosophy and temperament? One works harder than anyone, never gives up and brings iron to the team.

    The other is Paul Pogba.

People don’t actually detest Steve Bruce it’s just that he is part of Ashleys lies and dishonesty , goes along with it, a puppet if you like, certainly a yes man and took the Job for his own selfish reasons .

So as we look in from the outside we can see the manouvering and the manipulation of the press and the public from Ashley , Charnley, and Bruce.

I once witnessed, via TV I hasten to add, Steve Bruce taking the piss out of Newcastle United Football club at a Snland talk in at the stadium of blight.

Would like to find the clip . Shows you that Bruce is cheap with no loyalty to the club he sez he supports.

    He’s Ashleys loyal servant now.

Rob, from your earlier post. Zouma does appear to have lost a lot of his athleticism he had in his younger years due to a couple of bad injuries. However Tomori does look like he’s capable of covering for those deficiencies to an extent. If we can get ASM running between Zouma and his fullback it could cause problems.

Missing Kante is probably the biggest thing for us, hopefully it will give our players just that little bit extra time on the ball when needed.

    V Chelsea

If Chelsea start on the front foot with that fast pacey expansive football and get an early goal ..game over…we will ship a few goals.

If we get an early goal and it’s late second half with Chelsea coming at us it’s Willian that’s the danger in that he’s a first class diver . In the past he’s drawn and cheated his way to free kicks in dangerous areas ..with Var we might get the decisions if any foul he’s drawn is disputed.

The Match could hinge on the Ref, Var, and Willians diving.

    Prediction Chelsea 1 v 2 Newcastle United . Heart .

    Chelsea 4 v 1 Newcastle United. Head.

Regarding away tickets, it is not the first time that tickets have been returned by trhe club. I presume it is the clubs policy due to the falling number of season ticket holders and making it more difficult for ex-season ticket holders to pick and chose matches. Ie. just like they did when they manipulated the shirt sales away from the club shop to SD.

    Na not that one .

Bruce whinging there , blaming the fans for turning on him . He needs to ask himself why ? instead of shifting blame , as he usually does, Villa etc, its never his fault .

I wish him all the best but I don’t think it ends well.

GUARDIAN – After difficult starts to the season, neither manager will have welcomed the international break. Frank Lampard had Frank Lampard’s Chelsea playing with freedom and zest, while Steve Bruce had finally copied Rafael Benítez, thereby restoring Newcastle’s discipline and intensity. However, it is not hard to predict the flow of this game: Newcastle will invite Chelsea on to them and hope to nick a goal, while Chelsea will look to pick holes in their back line, making the match an interesting test for Callum Hudson-Odoi. Lots of wingers are adept at running in behind, but the better the team they play for the less opportunity they have to do it, because opposing defences tend to occupy that space.
