Steve Bruce Gives Concerning Update On Transfer Window

Steve Bruce has given his pre-match press conference for the trip to Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The topic of the January transfer window came up.

Bruce revealed that he hasn’t had many conversations about targets as he is still assessing his squad.

This may just be Bruce playing it coy to dampen any expectations. However, we would hope that he has at least met with head scout Steve Nickson on occasion to discuss possible targets.

While we are still over two months away from the window opening,
there should be at least some preliminary discussions on the plans for January.

A lot depends on the shape of the squad and Newcastle placement in the table when the window opens. However, they need to be prepared to make a move if necessary.

Of course, as head coach, Steve Bruce is not as involved with the process as managers at other clubs. However, he does give his final approval on transfers.

Bruce has also seen every player at least in training so he should have a good idea of what he’s got. While Florian Lejeune and Dwight Gayle have yet to make an appearance, they are both well into their careers, and Bruce should know what they can provide.

How Will Newcastle Do At Chelsea On Saturday?

  • Lose (46%, 583 )
  • Draw (28%, 354 )
  • Win (25%, 318 )

Well he can’t really say that in his desperation for the job that he agreed not to have any input in to the arrivals or departures of any players and that he would keep firmly schtum regarding the matter.

    Jib,
While we’re talking about Rondon can you list the nine games he started in before scoring two against Bournemouth?

The more I think about it the more I reckon Carroll has a chance of starting tomorrow and should. Get him pinned on Tomori who is slight and small as CBs go and he will dominate him.

They also don’t have any aerial power outside of Zouma who has poor concentration and Abraham. Hopefully we’ve been focusing a lot on set-pieces over the break with our 3CBs.

it could be a case of Bruce keeping his cards close to his chest regarding targets , not letting on how much the fat one will allow him to spend . the jan window is a awkward time to buy new players always has been . if we go after mobile centre forward in the jan window the price goes up . we are never gonna buy top players in the jan window top players play for top teams they aren’t gonna come to us at this moment in time …

hope this can clear the argument up…
    Newcastle United
On 6 August 2018, Rondón joined Newcastle United on a one-year loan deal, with Dwight Gayle heading in the opposite direction in the same situation.[46] He made his debut five days later, in a 2–1 home loss against Tottenham on the opening day of the season.[47] He scored his first goal in a 3–1 EFL Cup defeat at Nottingham Forest on 29 August.[48]

Rondón opened his league account on 10 November 2018, scoring twice to help the hosts defeat Bournemouth 2–1.[49] In the second half of the season, his partnership up front with Ayoze Pérez began to take shape and the Venezuelan often assisted the Spaniard for his goals.[50][51][52][53][54] He also maintained a steady record in terms of goalscoring and was neck-in-neck with Pérez until the latter stages of the campaign, finishing with eleven league goals—just one behind his teammate. In May 2019 he was named Newcastle’s player of the year and, in doing so, became the first forward to win the award since Alan Shearer in 2003.[5
