‘He’s Booming Around The Training Ground’ – Will This Man Start On Sunday?

Ever since Steve Bruce joined Newcastle this summer, he has spoken highly of striker Dwight Gayle. Bruce has cited several times how he coveted the striker while coaching in the Championship.

Bruce gave the 29-year-old a place on the substitute bench for the last two matches in place of Japanese striker Yoshinori Muto. Against Chelsea, he brought Gayle on for the final ten minutes for his first appearance in a black and white shirt since May of 2018.

It seems that Bruce is going to give Dwight Gayle every opportunity to resurrect his Newcastle career. That may start this weekend at St James Park against Wolves.

On Sunday, Lee Ryder wrote the following in the Chronicle:

Gayle should start against Wolves next week and hopefully, he can take his anger out on the Europa League outfit.

Lee was referencing Gayle’s frustration during the Chelsea match, where he failed to get a touch. He also had words after the match with Ciaran Clark as he felt he was better positioned to attack Christian Atsu’s late cross.

Steve Bruce has again spoken about Dwight Gayle after his inaugural appearance of the season. This is what Steve Bruce had to say in the Chronicle about Gayle and the difficulties he’s faced recently:

“What happened last year or the past, I am not really interested in when it comes to Dwight.

“The thing for Dwight is that whatever number he has on his back he’s got the ability to score goals.

“I am delighted that he’s around us because he is a very, very good player. And I am delighted he’s here.

“He can knuckle down now and fight for his chance.”

Steve was referencing Gayle losing the number 9 shirt to Joelinton this summer. Dwight now wears the number 12 shirt.

Bruce went on to again talk about how he’s had Dwight on his wishlist in seasons past but was unable to afford him:

“I have tried to sign Dwight three times but could never afford him.

“It’s vitally important that he stays fit because he reminds me of why I have tried to buy him that many times.

“In training, I get those reminders as his finishing is excellent, excellent. I am delighted to have him.

“He’s booming around the training ground and again he gives me another option which is good.”

It seems that Dwight is now very much in the fold at Newcastle. He has Joelinton who has started every match as as Andy Carroll who has made a substitute appearance in the last four.

Gayle gives Bruce a different type of option from the other two, as he is more of a poacher. It looks like he may very get more time on the pitch on Sunday.

Has Bruce got the cojones to play 4 – 4 – 2 with
Joe and Gayle at the sharp end ?
    Krafth Lascelles Schar Dummett
Almiron Longstaff x 2 St Maximin
    Gayle Joelinton

I have to say I’d prefer a fit Gayle to Joelinton and I think he’d do well alongside Carroll. I’m not sure how well he’d fit into a front 3?

It’s a good shout Jib, it’s clear we need more up top and the wingers have buckets of pace. Might even put Atsu on the right and Miggy up front with Joe, Gayle come on for the last half hour when defenders are starting to tire

    The Mag:

The advert comes as new research has shown that the majority of Manchester City followers on social media channels are fake.

Social media agency Pilotfish Media estimates 58% of the Manchester City 15m Instagram followers and 33% of 7.2m Twitter followers are fake, which when combined adds up to over 50% of followers across both platforms.

Here’s an idea, if Manchester City don’t have enough fans to fill the ground, why don’t they just give thousands of free tickets away to local kids, rather than try to attract ‘fake’ fans and neutrals?

Or better still, why doesn’t Sheikh Mansour just sell Manchester City and buy Newcastle United…

Jail – Bills Son Is Back,
We also comfortably beat a Leicester who humped us 5-0, our first such defeat in three years, as for beating the worst Man U team in 30 years and a Spurs team on some kind of self destruct mission? The results against Watford, Brighton and Watford are much more telling.

Jail, you could turn a silver lining into horsehair lining in a heartbeat.

    Bottom line…

We’ve got 8pts after playing four of last seasons top 6 plus Leicester – compared to 1pt last season.

Only a twisted, negative, childish oaf would not see something to be pleased about in that.

Errr… just think I’ve realised why you don’t.

Yep,,, we didn’t lose to any of them – including the Brighton sandwiched between two slices of Watford.

I’ll help you out… you left out Norwich.

The Mansours will need to still put in their own money on top, to meet Ashleys demands.

Jumped on the bandwagon in the KK years did you?

Doubt you stood on the terraces supporting the club in the dark days before.

In fact. I doubt you’ve ever stood on any terrace.

I thought the Longstaffs struggled against Chelsea and needed another defensive midfielder in support, or replacing one. Wolves are another team that swamp the midfield and then pick teams off with a quick pass out to the wing. I think the brothers will again struggle and even more so with four forwards.

Our established form of playing is a defensive formation that hopefully stops attackers from reaching one on one situations with our defence. Bruces attempts to play a more attacking brand of football with more than three upfront has so far come to nought and would require further circulation of players.

not a bad call that. maybe an old fashioned little and large combo in a traditional 442 could work. have to try something new

You say reserve judgement on Bruce, but Bruce’s dismal CV (-139 GD etc) hardly inspires confidence he will turn it round whereas Rafa’s did. Plus have we not recently played Watford and Norwich as well as some of the bigger teams.

As for calling people repetitive….I mean really, coming from you of all people. All of us are repetitive to a degree as NUFC passionately means something to us all. Belittling a fellow fan for not exactly sharing your views is a bit off really. Next you’ll be saying he’s a mackem. I’ve had over 50 years following NUFC through largely thin and occasionally thick and have been stood at home to Luton (Ricky Hill and Brian Stein) in front of only 14,000. Some people are happy to stomach Ashley, others not so and others just haven’t got the fight left now for any perceivable change any time soon. With toon 22 live and let live.

Erm just so we’re clear Gayle scored 6 goals in 35 league appearances (12 as sub) in his only PL season for the club. Joselu scored 4 from 30 (11 as sub). In previous incarnations the lad has only managed to better that once in a PL season when he scored 7 at Palace.

If Dwight Gayle is the Greggsmeister’s answer then I’d hate to think what the question is ? As usual Mr Bruce is clutching at straws.
