As is a custom on Wednesdays, Newcastle have released images from today’s training session. The club sent out the following tweet highlighting the return of Matt Ritchie and Florian Lejeune.
Matt Ritchie and @lejeune_florian were involved as Steve Bruce's squad prepared for Sunday's visit of @Wolves.

It’s great to see Matt Ritchie back with the lads after two months on the sidelines with an ankle injury. Last week he was in the Middle East getting some warm weather training in. Bruce had noted at the time that he expected the 30-year-old to be ready for team training this week.
The club provided the following statement on Ritchie in the write-up accompanying the images:
And Steve Bruce may be able to call upon Matt Ritchie for Sunday’s match, with the influential 30-year-old back in full training this week.
So it looks like Matt could be involved in some capacity for Sunday’s match against Wolves. That could be a massive boost to get Ritchie’s passion and leadership back in the team.
We also noticed two absentees in the images. The first was Fabian Schar, who was not in any of the photographs. The club usually do a decent job of having every player in the session in at least one of the pictures. While it could be nothing, it does look like Fabian was not involved in today’s training for whatever reason.
The other player is Andy Carroll. He is not in any of the images either. However, there is a good reason for that. Steve Bruce has disclosed that Andy is following a specific training plan to try to ensure his fitness.
The Chronicle have published these revelations by Steve Bruce about Big Andy’s training regimen. It seems he only participates two days a week at the moment. This is how the head coach explained it:
“Andy has got his schedule now. He trains for two days. On Tuesday, we had a big physical day where his stats were great.
“Thankfully, there is no reaction to his ankle the next day. He trained again on Thursday and he comes to the fore.”
Well, that would account for why the 30-year-old striker was not in training today. Andy does not train two days in a row but instead comes in on Tuesday and Thursday. It looks like on Wednesday, the medical staff assesses his ankle for any reaction from the day before.
We’re not sure if this is just as Andy gets himself back to full fitness or if this will be his schedule for the foreseeable future.
However, Bruce did say that Carroll will soon be available to start games:
“Hopefully in the next week or two weeks he will be in a position where we can start him.”
We think the club are best to take the extra precautions with Andy. We’ll have to see how it all pans out in the end.
Hopefully, he can get a start in November, and that will be a big hurdle for him to get over in proving his fitness for the rest of this season.

Referencing your earlier posted link to the piece about Ashlie having a dig at Goal’s board……..
‘[Ashlie] the retail tycoon said Goals and its board “did not truly engage” with the offer process, describing their co-operation as “limited and fitful”.
Now that is priceless coming from he who’s happy to go through the motions of selling and failing to do so

Comment #3Jail – to answer your question about Carroll (a few topics back). Yes I think other Premiership clubs would have taken a chance on him. Not the top 6 but, say, one of the promoted clubs or a club such as Burnley or Brighton and probably on similar pay as you play terms. Of course as we were interested as well Andy was always going to choose us. I know you think it was just a publicity stunt but I honestly think if we’re careful with him then he could be very useful once he regains full fitness and match sharpness.

Comment #6A little bit of background from their website.
‘Our history
Although we can proudly trace our UK roots back to the 19th Century, through founding firms operating in London and Liverpool, from 1988 to 2015 the firm was known as Baker Tilly.
On the 26 October 2015 the firm adopted the name RSM and united under a single global brand with RSM audit, tax and consulting firms across the world.’

Just because you will something to happen does not mean that it will. This was always a long shot – Ashley is a shrewd operator and employs other equally shrewd operators. He’ll get his and we’ll be free of him at some point.

a fit Andy would be an asset to at least 15 of the 20 Prem teams,
the problem Andy is and has been for a long time now is keeping him match fit , the type of game he plays his ankles knees calf thighs take a pounding and unfortunately the injuries just keep coming and as he gets older the recovery time gets longer and longer, and what pace he had has almost gone.

Comment #19geordietom, Nicky Butt can kiss my fat one – he was never a Newcastle player, merely a guy who came and wore the shirt from time to time.
My favourite memory of him is when he got dangled by his neck by David Batty, a proper Toon midfielder.
It doesn’t surprise me at all that he’s been beating up women. Proper toerag!

Comment #22”Instead, he is said to have paid £40M for the inexperienced 22-year-old Joelinton – who may turn out to be an outstanding player, but it will take some time.”
Surely 40M isn’t a punt, even in today’s crazy market you should be getting a lot more than raw potential at that price. A little North of 40M is what you would normally sell if they had done something really quite notable to date. I thought scouting gems for circa 10M or less and then not paying that was the Ashley model.
Finally releasing some decent funds for some ”interesting” / flakey buys to prop up a mediocre coach to put 2 fingers up at rafa and risk relegation is insane and who in their right mind wouldn’t want Rondon right now.

I agree with you on carroll, it’s a no brainer to me on the type of deal he’s got. He can still be useful and probably will be as the season goes on.
1 goal which results in 1pt or 3pts could means he pays off what he cost and we make money for if it increases our position in the league by just 1 place come end of season.
More importantly I think it gives us PL experience which will be valuable for the likes of joelinton and other forwards at the club
