Star Who Missed Training Now A Doubt For Sunday

We had noticed yesterday when Newcastle published images from Wednesday’s training session, that both Andy Carroll and Fabian Schar were absent.

The Andy Carroll mystery was quickly solved, as Steve Bruce had commented earlier in the day of the striker’s limited training schedule. He was not involved in Wednesday’s session due to that.

It has come to light this morning that Newcastle has a new injury scare in its ranks. The Chronicle are reporting that Fabian Schar suffered a knee injury at Chelsea last Saturday. His fitness for Sunday’s match is now being assessed by the medical team.

Schar has had a busy schedule this year for both Newcastle and Switzerland. He has started all ten matches for the club in all competitions. Adding to that load, Fabian has played every minute of all four of his country’s European qualifiers since the first international break.

Schar must remain fit for the entire season, so if he is unable to miss just the Wolves match, that is not too big of an issue. While he has easily been our best player this season, Newcastle do have ready replacements in the ranks who can do a job in the Swiss star’s absence.

If Schar is unable to play on Sunday, it’ll be interesting to see if Bruce feels comfortable handing Florian Lejeune his first start since his second serious knee injury. The Frenchman has been training with the team for the past three weeks and could be ready to make his return.

Aye, story in the Chronicle, he felt it during his light jog against Chelsea last weekend, he’ll be assessed next week to see if he can manage another light jog against West Ham.
