Clark, Fernandez, And Joelinton Get Starts Against Wolves

This is the team Steve Bruce has chosen to battle Wolves today at St James Park. It’s just the one change with Federico Fernandez coming in for the injured Fabian Schar.

Steve Bruce does not change it up too much as he keeps faith in the front three of Joelinton, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Miguel Almiron. Dwight Gayle and Yoshinori Muto get spots on the bench to provide some attacking options if needed.

This is how the visitors will lineup.

Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo will pull Leander Dendoncker from the midfield to center-back for the injured Willy Boly. It’s a position the 6′ 2″ Belgian has not played often for Wolves.

This is the start of a four-game stretch that Newcastle need to get points in. Three points is all that will do in this one at St James Park. Last time at home, it was a resounding 1-0 win over Manchester United on the wonderful Matty Longstaff goal.

Let’s hope someone steps up today and gets us the goals we need to get all three points.

Fernandez is a good player and decent in distribution. Have a feeling goals will finally come today and I’ll go 3-1 toon win.

Stron wolves team that I particularly worry about the midfield battle. I love the longstaff bros but neves and moutinho are very good together and have much more combined experience. Matty looked like a headless chicken against Chelsea.

Schar out, and in comes the collosus of rhodes. Hopefully the man mountain will win his place in the side today. I would be gutted to see Fernandez let go on a free.

No Gayle in starting line up is a surprise, I would have brought miggy into midfield with Gayle and Linton up front in a 4 – 4 – 1- 1, just can’t see us scoring in this setup (think I would have dropped Matty Longstaff to the bench for this one)

A little disappointed in the formation but to be expected. If we sit deep and have anything less than our fair share of possession I will be going ballistic.

Good luck to the lads today, they’re gonna need it. This team reminds me of those teams who played without a striker instead opting for a false number 9 although that is due to having Joelinton as an invisible player nowhere near a player we can count on. We really could do with perez and his closing down and work rate today, a massively underatted player imo.

On prev articles, I’m now of the opinion like others who don’t think relegation is a bad thing for us. I hope we don’t but wouldn’t be at all surprised by relegation. What is the point in just making up the numbers like last half a dozen seasons? Other fans hope their team go on a cup run or push for Europa League but our only hope now is to reach 17th.

Invest I said years ago that perez had the technique to play for city. No first choice, but his touch and technique is very good and he always closed down cleverly. If joelunton had half this we’d have a weapon.

3pts and 3 goals for The Toon.

Willems may have to be a bit more cautious today, can;t be leaving space for Tarore to run into.

Similarly though we can get at their wingbacks and that is a makeshift back three for them and two of them played 90mins on Thursday, one in midfield. A few other players played the 90mins Thursday too.

Got to take the initiative and force a high tempo. Press that unfamiliar backline.

Not surprised with the selection, but wouldn’t have been my preferred 11.

I would have probably brought Gayle in to the 11, and I do think we are asking a lot of Matty to expect him to come in and perform.

We need to use Joelinton better, he isn’t an out and out centre forward, so he is never going to show his potential playing in this role. He isn’t a natural goalscorer, and has never been that in his career. That we are trying to use him as that, doesn’t make him a bad player when he isn’t banging in the goals in that role.

I’m not a fan of Gayle at this level, but I don’t think there is much option other than to play him, between now and January at least. Either coming in from an inside forward position or playing off Joelinton.

I get what your saying there but don’t think relegation will get rid of slugboy. As others have said (i think nufc83) he would just loan the club money to get us up and we would then be truly f#@ed!
Anyway I’m hoping we just set about these and not just sit back and let them attack us. Going for 1-0 miggy to score with a miss kick lol.

If it doesn’t go to plan or we’re at a stalemate come early 2nd half, get Shelvey and Gayle on together, see if they can strike up that old partnership again.

    Right Lads

Watch for that Spuggy in Nunos beard..its keeping warm but pops out when Wolves concede..it uses real bad language too ..I heard it once saying kin ell … was tweeting on Twitter about the ref later.

Seriously though ..If we concede early Wor defence might get the shakes..no swish Swiss in there could have Fernandez and co panicking .

We need Shelvey in there ..his experience will be telling if he gets on ..Mattys not the answer yet.

2 wide men that can cross would see Joelinton and Almiron thrive .

St Max is doing well .

    Newcastle 3 v Wolves 1… Almiron hat trick !

What’s Lascelles constantly whinging at? Doesn’t seem focused at all.

ASM needs to realise he won;t beat Traore for pace or power. Gonn have to use your bag of tricks, don’t try them in dangerous areas should you lose it.
