Well, it was a pretty drab affair at St James Park for the first thirty minutes. However, Newcastle closed the half strong in the final 15 minutes. They got their rewards with a 37th-minute header from captain Jamaal Lascelles from an excellent cross by Fede Fernandez.
Newcastle had slightly more of the possession over the visitors in the first half and outshot them 9-3. However, it’s just the one shot on target.
Joelinton and Miguel Almiron have looked decent in their link-up play. The Paraguayan Almiron has done well tracking back and making a few key interceptions.
However, it was a familiar struggle in the final third. The final ball was either poorly executed or the wrong one to play. However, Newcastle grew into this game and better chances started to come late.
Almiron was sent clear by Matty Longstaff in the 34th minute, but a heavy touch took him wide. Rather than use his right foot, he tried to strike it with the outside of his left but it went into the side netting.
But Newcastle kept up the pressure and it paid dividends. After a sequence of set pieces, Newcastle kept the ball in Wolves’ end. It ended up with the fantastic header by the captain.
Former Newcastle captain Alan Shearer was even delighted with that one.

Newcastle must see out this game. We expect Wolves to come out strong in the second half. However, the lads cannot rest on their laurels. They must keep the pressure on Wolves and push for a second goal.
