Allan Saint-Maximin quite easily won our reader’s poll as Newcastle’s best player against Wolves.
BNS Comps has again tweeted out a video of Allan Saint-Maximin’s touches against Wolves. They did the same with the Chelseas match.

Late week, Adrian Clarke wrote a statistical analysis about Allan’s recent performances and how well they stack up against other players in the league.
Squawka Football has isolated the statistic of take-ons and compared it with Wolves’ Adama Traore who was outstanding on Sunday:

• 10 take-ons attempted

Of course in the end, it’s production that really matters and Allan needs to work on his final ball. However, he did put some dangerous crosses against Wolves and seems to be getting better with each Premier League game he plays in.

Comment #1Get him higher up the pitch so when he receives the ball if he goes past 1 or 2 hes got a chance of scoring not getting it in our own half and then having to beat 4 or 5 to be in a dangerous position. I would be tempted to play him directly up with Joelinton as if he can pick up a flick on with only 1 defender to beat I think he would score a fair few goals.

Comment #2Yeah, he just needs the rest of the team to move for him, give him options and keep up with his breaks more often, else he’ll suffer the same fate as HBA where it was left to him to make something happen whilst his teammates just stood still and stared.

Not sure why you have this endless obsession with what Rafa did last season. What rafa did last season was get Rondon and Perez firing quite spectacularly in the last 16 games when Amiron arrived. I think Rafa has demonstrated that Joel is not currently worth 40M and is not the sort of money you spend on very raw potential unless you’re an M’Bappe. Rafa knew this and advised that Joel should not be signed for more than 20M but of course you know better and of course under bruce we will be comfortable midtable and have a god cup run. Oh to have some of what you’re on seemingly most of the time. Also what is the point of signing youngsters then kicking out the guy who could develop them. McCarvew all over again.

Your banner did the job and it’s heartening to know you got the backing of some fans too. Just Gan canny and don’t push your way into being banned or worse. A few more similar, small banners popping up in other parts of the ground, pitchside and in camera-sight might just work.
Genjikai, you’re a star.

Comment #9Why does no one get if we play higher up the pitch we will concede way more. This is the problem if we push up to score more we concede way more. Were ducked it’s as simple as that lets not fight it and end up embarrassing ourselves more by playing higher up the pitch, it didnt work out any other time we tried it.

Comment #10All this shows us is that yet again the only statistics that matter in a game are goals for and goals against.
You quite rightly state yourself that he needs to finish better, completely negating any value there may be in him taking people on.
He gets past people and cant put the brakes on, ending up in the crowd.
He beats people again but can’t cross the ball.
At least he has the willingness to shoot. It’s just a shame he’s no good at it.
It was in the very first “Goal!” movie that the first thing the manager taught Santi was that a pass is more efficient than trying to take someone on.
Usain Bolt, the fastest man on the planet, had a go at football but very quickly realised there’s more to it than just running past people.
St Maximin needs to go get himself a second string to his bow before the fans lose patience.

Comment #11St Maxi, Worth every penny and more. We just need to get £40M Joe to find his feet ( Maybe a good idea with the family thing ) and of course Miggy is nearly there. He showed glimpses of magic when he strayed onto his natural LEFT side ( Take note Brucey LEFT SIDED PLAYER IN FORMER CLUB SCORED MANY GOALS !! )
