Pundit Knows What To Expect From Newcastle This Weekend

BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has given his predictions on this week’s Premier League matches. Lawrenson is predicting a 2-1 defeat for Newcastle at West Ham on Saturday.

Even though West Ham have been in shaky form, the former Liverpool man feels the Hammers are the safer bet in this one. This is Mark’s prediction in full:

Just when I thought West Ham were about to push on, they started a run that has brought only two points from their past four matches.

But while the Hammers are still horribly inconsistent, at least we know what to expect from Newcastle – they will come to London Stadium and try to park the bus.

Steve Bruce’s side cannot really do anything else, because they offer such little threat going forward – which is why I am backing West Ham, despite their poor form.

We would say we were a bit insulted with this prediction, but we really can’t make the claim that Lawrenson is entirely wrong. While we agree that Newcastle offer little threat going forward, we don’t necessarily think that they can’t do anything other than park the bus.

Steve Bruce does have some options available to him to try to get the attack on track. However, whether anything Bruce attempts will work is another question.

We should see Isaac Hayden back after his suspension, but his addition does little to dispel the “park the bus” sentiments from Lawrenson.

However, Andy Carroll did train today and should be fit enough for Saturday. Dwight Gayle is also waiting for his first start since 2018.

There have been murmurs that Jonjo Shelvey could have a place in the starting eleven. He may be able to create some chances for the front three with his vision and passing range.

We can see why Lawrenson is down on Newcastle, but we still have hope that the lads can get a result on Saturday.

How Will Newcastle Do At West Ham On Saturday?

  • Lose (44%, 511 )
  • Win (33%, 378 )
  • Draw (23%, 267 )

Don’t worry some inspirational management from the sidelines will see us to a magnificent victory, be afraid WH, be very afraid.

    I’ve got us down for a draw1 😉

Did Bruce get the keys for the bus off Rafa or has he had a dodgy set made up?

As part of the financial operations the bus is in the garage awaiting the delivery of spare parts.

So there’s currently nowt to park, although I believe that 4iiiis is considering shipping in some shopping trolley’s lying unused in various empty stores!

Rondon isn’t doing great in China, he hasn’t scored in his last 4 and has been dropped to the bench a couple of times.

However, it isn’t really any sort of reflection on his time here and how well he did for us. I’d still have had him here in a heartbeat over the summer and regardless of Rafa, it is shocking that we didn’t even try to keep him. Without question we would be doing better were he still at the club.

I’m there on Saturday, it is only 10 minutes from where I stay in London. Not at all sure what to expect. West Ham are hit and miss, and we are well, who really knows, anything from atrocious to very decent.

I’m expecting 3 or 4 changes to the line up this weekend. Both centre mids are fairly obvious, and then I think Almiron and/or Joe may get taken out of the spotlight.

Hate to respond to political comment on a football blog but Corbyn has as much chance of winning this election as Brucie has of winning the Premier League / FA cup double!

Good words from both Pressley and Redfearn really, I think it is a difficult situation all round. I’d anticipate that Sorenson will be back in Jan if things don’t change. Hadn’t realised he and Shola had worked together at Fleetwood. If Pressley is big on working with young players, then it is a good insight for Shola to have taken advantage of. However, also could have been just doing a mate a favour by sending him there as well, in which case it has worked for nobody.

On Corbyn, is this the 4th or 5th time labour have declared war on football owners only for nothing to be done at all.

Probably all hot air again, but at least it is hot air which will bring attention and a spotlight onto Ashley and his running of the club.

Shola, the token Geordie who is an Ashley apologist.
We are probably the only club who makes appointments not relative to skill nor ability, (apart from Rafa) and that ended in tears!

    Lilongwe,
If he’s got 3 in 7 and hasn’t scored for 4 games, he must have gotten off to a flier.

Pundit Charlie Nicholas feels Newcastle manager Steve Bruce has done a good job at the club since succeeding Rafa Benitez last summer.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Nicholas launched a defence of the Englishman despite the fact his Magpies side are currently just one point above the Premier League relegation zone in 17th.

He said: “I think Steve Bruce has done a fabulous job at Newcastle. He doesn’t have two up front to play and he loves playing with two strikers.Everything he has had to build, he has done so from the back, so they have to go back to front, but Newcastle’s away record is good – they will frustrate them but West Ham will just edge it. 2-1.”

Any adverse comments about Mr Tubbs are welcome matters not where they originate from. A slagging in public is a slagging in public. Helps the cause.
Even though it was Agent Cob saying they are after Tubbs – every little helps.

I wondered where your Rondon claims came from, none other than Luke Edwards, the footer claims to be a toon fan, bollorx, he’s had an agenda against Rafa for a good while now

Sadly I agree with the points you make Dougie at 12. A club that has been stripped of its pride and honour, exists only for one man’s benefit and sadly that isn’t the average fan nor is it the little lad/ lass who as SBR said “climbs the stadium steps with their parents and viewing the hallowed turf for the first time and falling in love”.

They may not be Ashley lovers, but defending him leaves a really bad taste in your mouth even thinking about doing so. They should go and join a debate club somewhere, and leave a NUFC blog to people who want to talk all things NUFC related and the best interests of the club.

Tuff @11 – I agree that any bad press for Ashley is good. I’m just pointing out Jezza is not doing it for the good of nufc but to ingratiate himself with Toon fans who are unsure after the Brexit debacle.

    Jail,
He scored in his first and third (2 in this game). Was dropped for 2 of the last 4 matches, coming off the bench in 1 of those. Could easily be argued he is acclimatising to a new league and very different culture.

Either way, whatever he does elsewhere, before or after us, is irrelevant as he was very good for us, and should have been kept.

Ashley is finished. There’s absolutely nothing he could do to win over fans now, he’s passed the point of forgiveness. The utter contempt he has shown the fans over the years is nothing short of remarkable and the only thing delaying the inebitable further decline was Rafa Benitez. It’s only going to get worse once. If we don’t get relegated this season we will next season or the one after that, under him we are destined for failure.

When will we have our first 2 goal scorer at the club? Before Crimbo? After Crimbo? It must come soon surely with 6 single goal scorers. It’s a very exciting time at the club vis a vis scoring isn’t it Mr. Brucie and Mikey?

Jail – aye it was an Luke Edwards article on another Toon site. Did seem a rather large amount – especially for the Toon.

Martoon – agree it is probably Agent Cob trying to get a few North East votes. As normal – regardless of political persuasion – nothing will materialise from it -politically.
But it was welcome I suppose getting the boot in to Mr Tubbs and the plight of the club.
