Steve Bruce has confirmed that Isaac Hayden will retain his place tomorrow at West Ham in an interview with BBC Newcastle.
“He’ll come back into the team tomorrow – it's the obvious one, which is just at the right time.”

Isaac’s return to the midfield is sort of a no-brainer due to the suspension of Sean Longstaff. Isaac had made 28 consecutive starts in all competitions up to the Leicester City debacle, as Steve Bruce and many others have called it.
The question is going to be who will partner Isaac in the midfield. Will Matty Longstaff retain his place, or will Steve Bruce go with Jonjo Shelvey or Ki Sung-yueng for the West Ham match?
We think Bruce will bring in Jonjo Shelvey and give Matty a bit of a respite for the time being.
The 19-year-old hasn’t reached the heights of the Manchester United match in his last two appearances. We also think Bruce rates Shelvey and will want to keep the temperamental midfielder involved when the opportunity arises.
Bruce has had some fortune when bringing in players out of the cold. That has especially been the case with Ciaran Clark, who was a shock selection for the Manchester United match.
We’ll see if Bruce has any other surprises up his sleeve for Saturday, but the return of Isaac Hayden certainly won’t be one of them.
How Will Newcastle Do At West Ham On Saturday?
- Lose (44%, 511 )
- Win (33%, 378 )
- Draw (23%, 267 )

I suppose there would be some irony if Ashley had to man the turnstile on minimum wage and a zero hours contract 🙂

Comment #10Just imagine, we could have 25 TSGs come the end of the season if every squad player, including GKs, got one.
Martoon might have to have a vote for the best one as a decider!

Comment #14I reckon Joelinton will start tomorrow but would like to see big Andy given a start, possibly Dwight to replace miggy. I’ve went for the draw anyway.
I was on my way to work yesterday going passed byron burger on grey street, saw Hayden coming towards me on his mobile. I winked but he blanked me, what a tw#t!!
Have went for the draw. Hwtl.

You would imagine that Carroll has a huge point to prove against west ham….I hope he plays a part (either starts or from the bench) and sticks it ‘up em’

Comment #17I think Andy will be on the bench. Hope he can impress with a much needed goal. Hayden in, would have preferred Jonjo, but he’s not as defensive as Hayden away from home. Hoping for a least a draw. HWTL

Comment #19NYmag that’s the way I would go. Give Matty a rest. Why can’t we have a team and Manger where we could be confident Of at least a draw. It’s game after game where your dreading going behind and knowing we can’t score more than one goal.

It’s all about confidence….you cant underestimate how much that plays a part.
I think at this point in time, Hayden and Shelvey is the right choice (based on experience and playing together).
Upfront…..I’m lost – I have no idea what Bruce can do……I think he’ll probably go with the same as always.

Comment #21You know on paper our team looks quite good, then when you see them play it’s as though they’ve never played together. Every team we play seem to pass and retain the ball. Our passing is atrocious, we can play ok in spells during the match, then revert to type and give the ball away. It’s getting really hard to support this team, and I think it can only get worse. Then a win today I’ll be back to being positive. Oh the trials of being a toon fan

Comment #24Sorry got involved in something else, If Shelvey and Hayden can’t play together then I’ll be very disappointed no reason why they shouldn’t but as Carltoon says we look good on paper but the on pitch action always seems to be lacking somehow.
Perhaps tomorrow will be better, let’s hope so!

Comment #285311 for me with Muto upfront and Gayle on the bench. Need a strong right side. I’ll stick with Almiron (he can’t be brought to his more natural position on the left until Ritchie returns) and Yedlin.

Comment #30In relation to the Halls/Shepherds extracting £7m a year I personally have zero problem with that. They built a successful club from nothing and earned it.
Even if you’re one of those clutching their pearls over it comparing Ashley favourably to our previous ownership (excuse me while I just lean to one side and vomit violently at that) two wrongs do not make a right.
Also ancient history. Utterly irrelevant to the issue at hand which is how we detach the leech from our club.
Careful financial steward? Don’t make me laugh. You’d have to be an absolute moron to assert that.
Relegated twice. Debt doubled. Commercial revenue stagnant while our peers soar. I wish I could swear on here because any idiot peddling the nonsense that it could be worse or was worse previously wants telling, loudly, to fcuk off. What’s worse than a club that exists solely to serve as an advertising hoarding and liquid cash stream for MASH holdings? Nothing.

Comment #33Give miggy the ten role sitting close to joelinton
ASM Willems offer pace either side
Hayden back with Jon joe pinging balls so no need for miggy picking the ball up in his own half .
And if joelinton isn’t doing it this week hook him not miggy and give him an dandy a run together .
Head saying 1.1
Heart 1.2 with almeron getting clear n lifting one over the keeper 70 mins
Did I dream that ?

Comment #36“Pep Guardiola credits scouting for ‘80%’ of Manchester City’s success”
Well, they just go out and buy the best players, but it’s surely true that scouting is immensely significant in terms of onfield performance.
Scouting and quality coaching, competitive wages and also giving the players good facilities and quality medical support.
Running a football club isn’t brain science, and certainly not a club that naturally attracts over 50000 to home games.
It’s heartening that Ashley is now being widely seen as the short blanket merchant he’s always been and I’d agree, his time is up.
He’s finished at Newcastle.

During the Sheperd days watching the match was one of the highlights of my week.in contrast, the Ashley era has been a steady decline to the point now where watching the match is a depressing chore. I also caught myself muting the telly when Bruce was doing a interview the other day, absolutely terrible times.
