Newcastle have reportedly had scouts watch FC Metz striker Habib Diallo a couple of weeks ago when they faced Nantes in a Ligue 1 match. The Twitter account Scouts In Attendance is the source of this information, and they also were the ones to report of Newcastle’s supposed interest in Czech Republic midfielder Alex Kral this past week.

The 24-year-old Diallo has done well in Metz’s return to the top-flight scoring 7 goals in 11 matches this season. Diallo is a product of the Metz Academy, where he joined in 2013.
Last season in Ligue 2, the twice-capped Senegalese international scored 26 goals in 37 appearances as Metz gained automatic promotion to bounce straight back into Ligue 1. His form also largely kept former-Newcastle striker Emmanuel Riviere on the bench. Of course, Riviere has never been much of a prolific scorer as Newcastle fans well know.
Riviere managed only 4 starts for Metz last season after starting 23 in Ligue 1 the season before. Diallo returned from a loan spell at Stade Brest last year to unseat the former-Magpie as the main striker. Riviere was released this past summer and has linked up with Achraf Lazaar at Serie B club Cosenza.
Diallo extended his contract to 2022 this summer and has been one of the top scorers in Ligue 1 this season. His 7 goals equal another Newcastle target, Victor Osimhen of Lille, and is second only to Monaco’s Wissam Ben Yedder’s 9 goals.
Here is a video of the goal that Diallo scored in the game Newcastle reportedly had scouts attending.

The only other Metz connection I can think of is Seb Bassong who joined from there.

That’s exactly the sort of comment that gets peoples backs up, there’s really no need for it.

Comment #13Googled. Diafro Sakho. Metz to West Ham. 10 goals in his first season, then drops to 5, 1 and 2 although injuries meant he missed a lot of games.

Thank you Ashley.

Comment #19I really don’t know what I’m expecting here. Both teams last victory was against Man U at home. They haven’t won in 5 since, including the embarrassment vs Oxford.
I’m hoping they leave Snodgrass out, a similar type to Ritchie for them, possibly with a touch more craft and guile than Ritchie, but a driving personality and force.
I hope there are a couple of changes, aside from the centre mid. We need to try something to get more support higher up the pitch.

Comment #22Been skimming through comments past few weeks, hardly commenting but yesterday noticed people bringing up the £70 odd million debt that we had under shepherd before Ashley took over.
Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t £40m+ of that the debt for the stadium?

Comment #23Snodgrass is a pain in the backside. Whatever club he’s at I only recall him having good games against us. Either way, despite the poor form recently I think they have our number today. Not looking forward to the game.

Comment #24@Nufc-83: No way Haaland would move to us. He is easily on the road to be one of the best strikers in Europe. He will have his pick of any club he wants when he leaves Austria, fee will be easily over 50m

Comment #26Yeah no chance, he’s been highly thought of since he was 15. We don’t need a striker, Joelinton is more than good enough for our level. We need a coach understands how to get the best out of our squad
