Alan Shearer’s Team Of The Week Has Newcastle Presence

After a breakout performance this past weekend, former Newcastle captain Alan Shearer has put a few Magpies in his team of the week.

At left-wing, he has selected Allan Saint-Maximin for his dominating display at West Ham. He’s also selected his good friend Steve Bruce for finally bringing the Newcastle attack to life.

This is the team of the week as chosen by Alan Shearer.

It’s not surprising that Shearer has selected Saint-Maximin, who put on an explosive show against the Hammers on Saturday. His pace was too much for West Ham to handle and led to 34-year-old Pablo Zabaleta having to be pulled in the second half.

Scouted Football tweeted some of Allan’s stats from Saturday after the game. It shows you how much of a threat he was. The only thing he didn’t do was score.

Speaking for Man of the Match on Saturday evening, Shearer had this to say about the 22-year-old winger:

“Saint-Maximin, who I thought ran them ragged all afternoon. The same thing again, (ASM) flicks it over, Almiron pointing where he wants it again, they get the corner and also score from that one as well.

“The pace is staggering from Saint-Maximin. Ball in behind, counter-attack is superb, and if we’re being critical he (ASM) has to score, brilliant to get there, but that should be in the back of the net, that would have been game over.”

Despite missing some golden chances, Newcastle’s attack was much improved on Saturday. We hope that the massive increase in chances created becomes a trend going forward.

All credit to Steve Bruce and his staff for experimenting during training to formulate a plan that finally stirred the dormant Newcastle attack.

There was a lot said after the game by the players about how Steve Bruce instilled an attacking game plan in training last week.

It paid off big time at London Stadium, but now they must continue to work hard to replicate this performance at St James Park on Saturday.

Billson , sorry but you must be negative re NUFC at all times!!!! Its de rules!! Seriously, there are some on here who want SB to mess up, and maybe finish 4th last, so that they can say ” I told u so” . If we had lost 3-2 the other day the man would have been hung. All I’m saying is that we give him a chance, and hope.

So far people have said that he is

    – A long ball mgr ( what, like rafa wasnt ?? )
    – A 442 manager ( not yet seen as far as i know)
    – A dinosaur who’s training methods injure players ( that doesn’t stack up either )

Have you noticed it’s only the positive posters who get accused of being alts.

The neggers who all sing the same old doleful tune never are??

Could toon22, hibbit, lesh, OP, Jail and Rotunda be but one?

Would sure add up, surely there can’t be six saddo’s all trilling that same old doleful tune.

    Munster,
Talk about twisting words, I never said he was crowing after a win, go back and check you heartless galoot. You’re a complete hypocrite as well, you thrived on our defeats under Rafa, loved it that you could come on here and say how clever you were, a ground breaking “critique”. You disappeared off the face of the map when we won nine on the bounce yet crawled out from underneath your rock to lambast the manager over the changes he made against our defeat against Blackburn.

Was quite good also to see Joelinton get an assist at the weekend! We need to see more of him peeling off to the back post onto the full back as he could defo get plenty of joy doing that!

Bournemouth will be an interesting game would fancy us to cause their defence problems and I can see them pressing Shelvey so he needs to step up his game

    Lee Charnley Bunga Party,
We’ve given ourselves breathing space so we need to be a bit more adventurous and find away of getting the home games right, it’s no good coming away from great victories then putting on Watford and Brighton displays, hopefully Saturday has given them confidence.

Also, along with Munster, Brucie needs to stfu about Rafa, his endless sniping and name checking is doing himself no favours. Just roll your sleeves up and let results win people over,.
