Matty Longstaff has had his share of good news recently. He was named to the England U-20 squad for next week representing his first international call-up.
His first goal for Newcastle came, of course, in his Premier League debut and helped Newcastle turn their fortunes around after two terrible performances. Matty went on to start the next two games before being replaced by Jonjo Shelvey this past weekend at West Ham.
The younger Longstaff has now firmly entrenched himself in the match-day squad. Even if he doesn’t start tomorrow, he is an almost certainty to be in the squad.
It’s been a meteoric rise for the nineteen-year-old and is similar to his older brother Sean’s situation from last year. This is some more well-deserved recognition for Matty who has a bright future at Newcastle.
