Early in the game, Jamaal Lascelles reacted brilliantly to chase down a released Callum Wilson. Jamaal was able to catch the striker as they then both jockeyed for position.
As it became clear that Jamaal had won the battle, Wilson gave him a shove in the back that sent him straight into a prone Martin Dubravka.
As he collided with Dubravka, Jamaal injured his right knee while Martin was left sprawled out on the pitch.
Both players received treatment but were able to continue. However, fifteen minutes later Lascelles would have to come off to be replaced by Paul Dummett.
We now must play the waiting game to find out how severe the injury is. The fact that he was able to run around a bit and walk off under his own power signals that it should not be a serious issue.
Steve Bruce also spoke about his captain’s injury after the match and did not seem too concerned:
“I’ll not know until the relevant scans, but for him to come off?
“He’s walked off, so we don’t think he’s too serious, but until the relevant scans and X-rays and all the rest of it, then we’ll not no much until Monday, Tuesday.”
The Chronicle are reporting that Lascelles left the stadium on crutches with a brace on his right leg. He will be assessed by medical staff this weekend, but as Bruce said, they may not have any information on the condition of the knee until early next week.
Jamaal has been a mainstay at the back for Newcastle since being handed the captain’s armband in 2016. He’s started at least 30 games in the Premier League over the past two seasons as well as all 12 games this term.
While Jamaal was spotted with crutches, the early indications are that it’s just a knock. However, Fabian Schar has missed the last three games with what was said to be a minor knee problem.
At this point, it’s hard to speculate if Jamaal will miss any games. But we anticipate that Jamaal will be ready for the trip to Aston Villa in two weeks.

Comment #81I find myself having to agree with Jib as much as that hurts!! I am just enjoying the moment. I’m not happy with Ashley or Bruce being at the club, but that awful expression ”’ it is what it is” sums it up. At the end of the day we are all NUFC fans who want to see the team win and as Bruce said ” the only way I can get fans onside is to win some games.”
I love Fernandez, so so under rated, probably Yedlin’s best game in a black and white shirt and Willems gets better and better. Now if only our front 3 could hit a barn door!!!

Comment #82They could probably hit a barn door, they seem to be able to pick out a goal keeper , the woodwork and even their own team mates when shooting so a barn door would be easy, Its the empty spaces they are struggling with

When will mrs doubtfire put a speed merchant on the half way line for opposition corners?
The amount of times yesterday , we cleared the ball from a corner and they just sauntered to the ball.
I think you were just looking for a way to insult Bruce
(Mrs Doubtfire – oh my aching sides !!!!)
Bournemouth had only 4 corners in 97 minutes
I recommend more research

Comment #84I actually thought our defence improved when Dummett came on. Not decrying Lascelles but because Dummett was better suited against their agile, nippy strikers.
Also interestingly in my memories on FB was the Armistice display and who were we playing? Bournemouth at home and the score – 2 1 😀

Comment #86Some firearms for example may have to fire 100 rounds before hitting a target. Similarly shots at goal (or number of chances) is not an answer for lack of forward line productivity. Drafing the defense in offensive duties or playing hoofball possibly are. We’re trying both. The first one has worked so far but the second one did not probably due to our relatively poor physical strength and ball control. Playing higher line could get a leaky defence in trouble. Yesterday we also would have been in a deep hole but for the poor finish of Bournemouth. I’m therefore just relived that we got 3 points unlike many here, who think our yesterday’s performance was excellent.

Comment #87Whilst all of us were disappointed to get Bruce, many of us just said give the man a chance, partly based on the hope that this wud be a better bunch of players than he was used to. We now have a situation where we have lost our established strikers but we are starting to create more, play with more dynamism and clearly the players believe hugely in Steve Bruce and are praising him all the time. This is a completely different narrative to what Les Miserables told us, ad nauseam, would happen. I hope SB can keep it up. Then who knows , we might get to europe or win a trophy and finally Tsunki will get behind him. Most of the rest of us, dont like ashley but try to be happy and hope for the best.

Comment #91The long ball is often derided, but there is a difference between a long hoof and a long pass. When you’ve got players with the pace of Miggy and St Max then the long pass into space behind the defence isn’t just a good idea, it’s imperative we keep doing it. And nobody does it better than Jonjo. On another day he could’ve had a hattrick of assists. You play to your strengths and that’s one of ours. It caused both West Ham and Bournemouth no end of trouble and we’d be crazy to stop utilising that passing ability of Jonjo and the blistering pace of our wingers.

Comment #93Entertaining game and we did trouble a defence that had come off 3 clean sheets. A fair reflection would have been 6-4 to us! Max is an entertainer and (so far) seems to have a good attitude on and off the pitch. Miggy is a clockwork mouse who never stops – did you see the long chase back down the right wing to catch a breakaway player?! Joel worked hard this game, won his fair share of duels with Ake and did some great and skilful hold-up play. Fed, Ciaran – brilliant! Great goal from Yedders and had a better game defensively than sometimes. Isaac – hard work despite clearly having a knock.
The only negatives: the first 20 minutes we were outplayed – I was impressed with King but their number 22 was a cheat. The ref was somewhere between awful and very awful. Shelvey went from hero to zero in one week. He was virtually anonymous for much of the game and you always wonder whether a harder working midfielder like Sean or Matty would bring more to the team.
I was at West ham last week – it feels like a long time since I’ve seen 2 entertaining wins like that but the summer happenings make last season seem a century ago.

Comment #95Bobby, good to hear from you. Im sure you were loving the Gooooo onnn !! Or the loudest fan 🙂 . His passing was sublime. So many miseries on here. All they want is for us to barely survive, playing 442 old style hoofball so that they can tell us how much of a dinosaur SB is, instead of letting the man get on with doing his best. Cheer up Miseries! Nufc won. The team dug in and fought back. The atmosphere at times was rocking. The manager is clearly having an effect. Enjoy!

Comment #96I was convinced Yedders’ goal was offside, even after watching the replay on the big screen. 😀
Tbh, from the muted celebration I think half the ground and half the team suspected it was offside too.
Still not convinced with VAR. Spurs, especially seem to be benefitting from it, with both goals for and against. Seems like when a team scores against them, the VAR team is, just searching for any excuse to write it off. Yesterday again, it was a further sequence of play behind the goal that they disallowed it for.

Comment #98Munster, I always enjoy my football mate. I’m a supporter, not an activist. I want to see us do well regardless of who the owner, manager or even players are. Nowt against those who choose not to go, it’s their money and time and nowt to do with me. Can’t wait for the next game. 🙂

Let’s not forgot you yourself were at times quite scathing of SB early doors when we were bottom 3 and not looking in great shape. If we’re honest most football fans are very fickle and will turn in an instant. Rafa got manager of the month award in November as we won nearly every, if not every game during that whole month. However, I can’t see the point in not enjoying 2 wins on the trot, whatever and whoever the crcumstances are.

The trouble is VAR is not being applied properly. However, the biggest change that needs to happen is just put offside back to the attacker being level is onside. This off by a toenail or hair’s breadth is killing it.

Comment #108Not just corners Jib, free kicks as well, if you have someone on the half way line and the opposition have to leave their defenders back its easier for our big lads to get any balls pinged in.
Not just our game vs Bournemouth would have benefited, all our games would benefit, use the pace , exploit the opposition when they are vulnerable and reduce the impact of their set plays by taking their bigger players out of the box…….well it makes sense to me
