It’s Becoming A Farce For This Newcastle Loan Lad

Carlisle defeated Dulwich Hamlet 1-4 yesterday in the first round of the FA Cup. Once again, twenty-year-old Elias Sorensen needn’t have bothered making the trip. Despite facing a National League South team, Elias didn’t feature at all for Carlisle.

The striker once again was an unused substitute making it four matches in a row that he has not played a single minute. Manager Steven Carlisle even substituted two of his front three during the comfortable victory but didn’t give Sorensen a cameo.

This is reaching ridiculous levels for the young lad. If he can’t get into an FA Cup first-round match against Dulwich Hamlet, even as a substitute, then when exactly is he going to get the run of games he needs to develop?

Sorensen has only appeared in 6 of the 15 league matches Carlisle have had since he joined. His last appearance was a 32-minute cameo in a 2-0 loss at Plymouth on October 19th.

His last start was in an EFL Trophy win against Blackpool in mid-October. Sorensen will likely get the nod in the next EFL Trophy match against Morecambe on Tuesday; however, that’s hardly enough time on the pitch for the lad.

Newcastle need to give serious consideration to recalling Sorensen and finding him a better situation. This just has not worked out and is only getting worse.

I think this is Steven Carlisle way of saying to Newcastle, don’t tell me what I can and can’t do.

Honestly if Sorenson needs pitch time bring him back, playing in the under 23s is better than not playing at all.

Agree, I think you could be right and he is entitled to play whoever he wants but if he is being funny about the situation then bringing the lad back and turning down any future loan request is the way to go and also telling him why.

The team for today as I’d like it to look :
    Dubravka
    Yedlin Fernandez Lascelles Clarke Willem
    Almiron Hayden
    Atsu Joelinton Maximin.

this isn’t the first time. makes me question the player a bit.

“In January 2019, Sørensen signed on loan for Blackpool. Despite Blackpool manager Terry McPhillips suggesting he would play more games, he was recalled by Newcastle in March after making just one appearance for the club.”

    Jane

He goes from scoring goals for fun to languishing on the bench in lower league reserve teams. Same happened to AC don’t know if he has a bad attitude but I’d doubt it. In fact Pressley has said he has a good attitude within the club and has been impressed with his training so there’s no reason why he can’t give him some playing time.

I suspect Assassins theory is correct.

Jane, dunno if you’ve ever seen him play but frankly, he offers nothing except goals – which, of course, ain’t a bad thing in any football team! 😀
I think the modern game expects more from a striker nowadays which seems to be why he can’t get game time.
Why a manager wouldn’t throw him on with 20 minutes left however, is strange.
Anyway, I’ve got a game to be attending, which I will thoroughly enjoy. Not because it’s a good day out, but because I love football and love NUFC. HOWAY THE LADS.

I have put a wager on Almiron to score. We do know he will get chances… and by law of averages he has got to be due a goal by now. Today is the day.

Isn’t that the job of shola as loan manager to ensure the clubs the players move to get a game?

Looks like he is as good in his new job, as he was as a striker for us.

“Loans where a club insists the player plays are wrong from every point of view,” he says. “It’s wrong for the player – they have to earn their place as part of a learning process. For the club, it damages the dynamic in dressing room. Finally, from a fan’s perspective, there’s a sense that you’re basically relinquishing your independence if loanees are going to play come what may.”

Jane if the loanee is not good enough in the eyes of the loan clubs manager then it would be fair to send him back to his parent club rather than keep him hanging around to either disrupt the ‘team dynamic’ let the loanee feel he is wasting his time.

Get him back home and replace Joelinton with him. I can’t understand how a goal scorer like Joelinton can’t score for Newcastle. A gifted chance or two and he missed. FFS, Professional footballer does that include being able to kick a ball in a straight line ?
