Newcastle have managed to win two games in a row as they narrowly edge Bournemouth 2-1 at St James Park. It was another nervy end to the game but Newcastle claim all three points.
Both sides came out unchanged from the 1-1 first half. Newcastle continued in the same vein as they closed the first half by asking questions of the Bournemouth defense.
It came early for Newcastle this time as in the 52nd minute, Newcastle’s Ciaran Clark got his second goal in as many games.
It was a similar corner routine to the one last week, which saw a goal from Fede Fernandez. This time Fernandez had his shot blocked, but Ciaran Clark was able to get a touch as the ball dribbled into the back of the net.
Newcastle continued to play very well after the goal as they were well set up for the counter. They held their defensive shape as Bournemouth created the odd chance. But Newcastle were very threatening when they had the ball at their feet.
It was similar scenes to last weekend as Shelvey sent Allan Saint-Maximin clear in the 77th minute. His pace was otherworldly as he blew by the Bournemouth defender, but Ramsdale was able to make a good play on the ball. The ball rebounded to a charging Almiron whose shot struck a supine Saint-Maximin in front of goal. What do they have to do to score?
Joelinton made way for Andy Carroll in the 82nd minute. It was another frustrating shift for the Brazilian who didn’t take the few chances he got. Though he battled hard when on the ball and put in a shift defensively.
Allan Saint-Maximin made way to a standing ovation for Christian Atsu in the 89th minute. It was an unbelievable performance again from Saint-Maximin who today at least got an assist if not that elusive goal.
Of course, referee Martin Atkinson allotted six minutes of stoppage time. Bournemouth had a glorious chance in the final minute from a corner but Newcastle managed to see out the game and claim the points.
Make no mistake about it, this win is massive. The lads managed to keep their composure and come from behind against a very good Bournemouth team. Newcastle are now in 11th place on 15 points and just 2 behind Sheffield United in 5th.

Bruce needs to watch last 3 fixtures on so he can see what he doesn’t notice from pitch level… We turtle up and need subs at 65 mins 1 at striker and 1 at midfield. Oh and that our strikers need to practise 1st touch and striking ball at a target… nothing fancy side of a school will do!
All 3 points! I’m just sighing a breath of relief!
Gotta run!

Fantastic spirit and fair play to Bruce. He’s not doing a bad job at all.
Once our forwards start finding the net we’ll be hard to beat.
Great grit and determination.
My motm either Fernandez or miggy. Both excellent.

Comment #13Honourable mention for Willems aswell as Yedlin. What a threat they are. Willems must have had about 6 shots that game from wing back its crazy. Wasn’t too shabby defensively either.

Comment #14Brilliant win! Not one for the faint of heart. I know people will be questioning the front three – but the goals will come for Almiron and Maxi no question – and when they do, we’re going to give teams a real worry. Joelinton still needs some work in the final third but has some decent hold up play.
Either way buzzing after that finish, what a game for Yedlin and Fernandez – getting stuck in and showing their grit.

Comment #16What a good deserved win, mom Yedlin he must have covered a million miles today and that header.
Mind you Miggy must have covered almost as much and how the Fk didn’t he score.
Shelvey played exactly as he had to a perfect performance imo.
11 heroes in the team, accolades to every one of them and isn’t AC a top class defender!

Comment #17Most entertaining match I’ve seen us play since last weekend.
Two belting performances.
Yedlin MOTM for his goal and he did great all match, so much energy down both our flanks now.
Fernandez and Almiron 2nd and 3rd.
Team spirit on display was awesome after going one down.

He has his qualities but scoring isn’t one of them
Should be dropped for muto or Gayle in my opinion

Comment #24Saint max bargin buy, absolute beasts and was unlucky again not to get a goal, Almiron was good and we might have to accept hes playing a different role than we thought he would…pains me to say it but Linton is the weak link…while his hold up play is great..I don’t see much else…he certainly can play a role but he ain’t going to be getting us goals and we can’t keep relying on our defenders

Comment #31Another valuable three points and by rights should have been 3-1 but for ASM’s poor decision in front of goal. But despite my earlier thoughts on this game I’m not quite as confident that it means we are mid table quality just yet. Bruce must be being ordered to play joelinton because I really can’t see why we are using up a team space with him. Effectively we really are playing with ten men and that’s our style. Get a good break and the tactic is to turn our midfield into a second line of central defenders. We spend the rest of the game pressing and defending. No outlets so nobody to pass to up front. Bringing on Carroll as a defender and atsu to help almiron take pressure of us with wasted runs is another crap addition. We can’t keep up this all season there are much better teams by far that will hammer us into submission and we are much more likely to sustain injuries at the back.
Bright spots are ASM is an engine. Defenders are scoring because our front line can’t.

Comment #33My view so far through the season is we’ve been a team in transition. Trying to find a way of playing at the start, we found that. Then we were trying to create chances in games, we seem to be getting there these past few games. Now it will be a case of taking the chances we create. Unfortunately that’s the hardest part.
In the meantime, the defenders need two pay checks, one as defenders and one as strikers!

Comment #35Always said, when he was getting exaggerated criticism on here through the summer and late last season – Yedlin is by far and away our best RWB. Has so much more to his game, just by virtue of his speed and he has more fight than any of the other two.
His speed allows him to break, get on the end of things, recover and catch counters, take his man down the line 1 vs 1 and get on to more loose balls than the others.
The odd rash tackle from his snappy style is a small price to pay.

Comment #38Superb three points. If we can start converting the chances we can scare anyone So want Mig and Max to score it hurts, but their work rate is brilliant the times Mig chased back the boy is a hero, thought the atmosphere was more positive today but that might be me the eternal optimist….mind I,ve been that way supporting the Toon for 60 years so I gotta be that way xxxxxxxxxxx
