Fans Given Fresh Hope With 10 Points From 5 Games

It was 29th September at Leicester, and we were losing 1-0, and just before half time, Isaac Hayden was then sent off.

The game ended in our worst defeat since the dreary days of manager Steve McClaren  – it ended 5-0, and after that, we had 5 points from our first 7 games.

It looked like we were definitely in for another battle with relegation.

We still maybe will have that fight, but in the last five games, we have three wins against Man United, West Ham, and Bournemouth.

And are up to 15 points from our first 12 games – the best we’ve been since five years ago when Alan Pardew was still at the club.

[table “84” not found /]

We could drop a couple of places if Man United and Wolves win their games today – both are ahead at the time of writing.

Not only have we picked up points, but Steve Bruce has been true to his word, and he has had Newcastle play a more attacking style of football.

And the new front three of Allan Saint-Maximin (ASM), Joelinton, and Miguel Almiron have looked threatening, especially the two wide men.

We looked great last week in the first half against West Ham and yesterday, after being outplayed for the first 25 minutes and 1-0 down, we came back with two goals from Clark (second in two games) and DeAndre Yedlin.

The Magpies then held out well as the Cherries chased the equalizer over the last 20 minutes of the match.

We also had breakaways when we should have scored – much like last week at the London Stadium.

So hopefully, we still have that defensive resilience built up under Rafa Benitez, but now we have some real threat in the final one-third of the pitch.

Yes, we now have real pace with ASM and Almiron looking lightning fast down the wings.

So we even have some hope that maybe – just maybe – we can avoid a relegation fight this term and even finish above 10th place for only the second time under woeful and stubborn owner Mike Ashley.

[table “32” not found /]

Steve Bruce has taken severe criticism, as most managers would after the way Mike Ashley stupidly allowed Rafa Benitez to leave the club.

But maybe he can now manage Newcastle to a decent season – certainly the players seem to like and respect him.

Yes, anything can happen in the Premier League, so it’s not really clear whether we can avoid a relegation fight.

But more displays like the last two and we should be able to pick up those points.

There’s a two-week International break, and then we have 6 games in December – so at the end of this year, we’ll know how we can fare this season.

But after all the nonsense over the summer, when we lost a world-class manager, a decent finish this season would mean success for Newcastle United.

Who Was Newcastle's Man Of The Match Against Bournemouth?

  • A. Saint-Maxmin (34%, 733 )
  • DeAndre Yedlin (24%, 516 )
  • Fede Fernandez (15%, 322 )
  • Miguel Almiron (8%, 176 )
  • Ciaran Clark (8%, 172 )
  • Jetro Willems (5%, 98 )
  • Jonjo Shelvey (3%, 65 )
  • Joelinton (1%, 26 )
  • Martin Dubravka (1%, 14 )
  • Isaac Hayden (1%, 12 )
  • Andy Carroll (0%, 10 )
  • Paul Dummett (0%, 8 )
  • Christian Atsu (0%, 7 )
  • Jamaal Lascelles (0%, 5 )

Your post @21 confirmed my point – it could’ve been lifted straight from the Daily Heil, Express and Essex’s favourite, the Telegraph!

    Essex

You seem confident that the billionaire brigade would shove off in the event of a Labour government – and for what it’s worth. I see Corbyn as a liability to it.

Can we assume you are a billionaire who’d ready to up sticks, have been informed by one or some of them or even read it in the Telegraph or some other medium?

So if they did hop it so what? It’s not as though they contribute millions in tax is it? Maybe that’s why they’re said to be ready to move away – to avoid paying any tax at all?

    Re-post from previous thread…….

Perhaps it has already been mentioned but I’m sure it stated in the Chronicle that SJP can still be extended even if the new development should proceed as it seems it will. Although if I’d bought a property in this new building, and I wasn’t a Toon fan, I can’t say I’d be happy to have my windows full of the new stand and blocking all my light throughout the day!

Back to football:- I’ve got to say in my opinion Almiron, even allowing for his not scoring, yet, has an awful lot to offer the team. He works very hard indeed and some of his defensive covering is first class. I’m sure goals will follow in due course and once the first one hits the back of the net at St James’ Park I bet the roof will reverberate with the noise! HWTL!

    :~) 🙂 🙂

If we hadn’t wrecked it by selling our top goalscorers almiron would have been bagging the assists if not the goals by now. I feel sorry for him because his current duty is pressure relief for the defence.

You guys talking politics and bringing up terrorism don’t have a leg to stand on. Im assuming you’re from the UK. Pointing out individuals whilst ignoring others to use as a stick to beat with just shows your hypocrisy and double standards.

Maybe it’s best to keep that sort of thing off the blog as asked to.

    Bleatin,

Jumping on the ‘Bill’s Son is an angry grumpy old man’ is actually an admission that you can’t back up your opinions.

If anything, I get stick on here for being too positive and not drowning myself in the moaning mire of the doom laden.

Like, hibbit who three times was asked and couldn’t back up his grumpy old man claim you can’t back up your claim that we have gone backwards, that we defend all game long and that we are one step away from getting thumped every game.

I gave you my opinions on why I disagree, coming back with a bland dismissal without any real counter argument is very telling coming from a someone who loves spouting off as if he’s the king of the blog.

It tells me you’ve been backed into a corner and haven’t got any real facts to back up your moaning.

There is no patent on the English Language. Words are words and don’t belong to anyone. Most words that are an everyday utterance can be found in some newspaper or another if one could be bothered to scour them. Re arranging them however so done would still coincide with something a newspaper has written so what is your point?

Six points separate Sheffield United in fifth and Villa in seventeenth.

I have to jump in on this politics conversation on one point made because it was the most ridiculous thing I have read on the blog (removing Toon 22 of course).

Lesh I suggest you go and read how much the most wealthy people in the country pay in tax very quickly and come back with a more factual statement than saying the wealthiest do not pay anything in tax.

Lesh you basically suggested that if we lost some of the wealthiest individuals from the UK it wouldn’t be a big issue as they are not paying the required tax.

If we lost these individuals the country would be crippled no doubt about it.
