Jetro Willems put on some display yesterday. His performance covered the spectrum of what a modern wing-back should be. Willems showed pace, power, intelligence, passing range, and a shot with either foot.
Newcastle have the 25-year-old on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt until the end of this season. There is also an option to make the deal a permanent one for about £10m. At the moment, that amount is looking like a steal.
We have to wonder what Jetro is thinking at the moment. He surely is enjoying his run of first-team games. However, he was coy when asked about his future recently.
This past week the Chronicle had a report with a comment from Willems about joining the Magpies on a permanent basis. This is what Jetro had to say:
“It is not a big deal now. We are in November. It is the 11th game and we have a long time to go and I don’t want to think about it.
“It is not my priority. Of course at the end of the season, but now I just want to enjoy football and get some wins.”
We understand Jetro’s sentiment that he is concentrating on his football and there really is no need to rush on his part.
The Dutchman’s form since coming into the side for Matt Ritchie has been eye-opening. If he can continue to play at this level, that could catapult him into the ranks of the best left-backs in the league.
A full season of these types of displays will certainly put him in the same discussion as Andy Robertson, Ben Chilwell, Lucas Digne, Marcos Alonso, and Benjamin Mendy et al.
However, we hope that Newcastle can sign Willems up permanently and the sooner the better. Judging from some of the responses to Jetro’s performance yesterday, we are not the only ones.
if newcastle can’t get jetro willems for a permanent then a lot of top six clubs should be after him, there’s too many average left backs in this league

Easily our best signing. Hope we can tie him up permanently.

Comment #1Willems has been immense now for a good few games. If he can maintain this over the season he will be an absolute steal at 10m.

Comment #6Ah but will he want to get past January to see how things are looking? He may have his eye on doing a “Dutch Jump” to a bigger club come season end as has been made popular at the club. It’s a bit like the “French Leap” only with less cheese and surrendering and no monkeys.

I certainly aint a billionaire but I do own two properties, the one I currently live in and the one i used to live in and where my son lives on a subsidised (by me) rent. Total current worth around £800k which is not a lot in the south of England in this day and age.. Labour want (it’s part of their manifesto) to reduce the IHT threshhold to the extent that there’ll be next to nothing left to leave to my sons, nowt to do with the DT or it’s RW propaganda as I said before I can sort out the truth and lies myself.
Both major parties are coming out with false promises and lies and both would bankrupt the country if they did what they were promising in their political agenda’s, I have little faith in either parties or their leaders but i do feel that Boris is a little more transparent and obvious than Corbyn and therefore more likely to be telling a tad more of the truth.

Comment #24I don’t mind the politics to be honest.
When you recruit the help of your local MP to fight MA.
When you get involved in planning applications decided on by local politicians.
When you campaign for political parties to protect football clubs as an important part of communities.
When the leader of the opposition starts bashing MA.
Where do you draw the line.

Comment #31If we have an option to buy, does that essentially mean we have a purchase price agreed with the selling club?
Presumably we’ll also need to agree a contract with the player when the time comes but that he would be free to turn down our offers.
I hope that unwavering support from us fans will help to convince him to sign here.

Comment #35Do Billionaires pay a lot in income tax.
Probably not. It’s not like they have a regular job.
It’s probably the companies they own that pay tax on the profits they make.
It’s about assets. Inheritance Tax. Billionaires don’t pay it. One dodge is to technically hold their assets off shore. Made possible by the global world and free movement of currency.
After the First World War the country was skint. They brought in a tax called Death Duty.
It hammered the wealthy.
100 years on and they now dodge it.
Lots of Governments would love to tax them. However, no one wants to go back to putting a block on the free movement of capital.
If they did we would no longer be welcome at the globalisation party.
Remember, we are a tax haven to Billionaires from over seas who bring their wealth here.
Not easy to sort.
