Allan Saint-Maximin was again a force to be reckoned with in his fifth straight start against Bournemouth. The enigmatic winger put on another show for the Newcastle fans as he continually caused the Bournemouth defense problems.
There was almost a breakthrough for the Frenchman when he seized upon a Steve Cook error and was through on goal. However, his shot hit the crossbar but he was ever so close to his first Newcastle goal.
By his reaction, you could tell how much he wants to get that first goal. Especially at St James Park.
Allan has won our last three Man of the Match polls as well as our player of the month for October. Since his return to the side as a starter against Manchester United, he has been one of our best players. Though over the past few games, he’s had some stiff competition for that distinction.
However, former Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has proclaimed that Saint-Maximin has been Newcastle’s best player this season. Speaking to Football Insider, this is what Robinson had to say about Newcastle and in particular, Saint-Maximin:
“I thought he was outstanding against West Ham and he was very good this week, the problem Newcastle have had is that Joelinton has been detached from the players behind him, such as Almiron and Saint-Maximin.
“And they’re playing with Shelvey and Hayden in there as well now and I think the impact Shelvey has had, has been important.
“Saint-Maximin has been Newcastle’s best player all season for me, and he was again at the weekend as I thought he was key to what they did.
“He energizes the crowd, he is like Traore (Adama); he is not afraid to excite a crowd with his pace and his skills by taking on defenders, and that is what football fans like to see.
“Saint-Maximin is a real crowd-pleaser.”
He certainly is a crowd-pleaser and he seems to be getting better with each passing game. Just wait until he gets that elusive first goal at St James Park. That will really get the crowd going.

Comment #15Fernandez makes Garth Crooks’ team of the week on the beeb.
Fernandez: Ciaran Clark and DeAndre Yedlin may have been the defenders who scored Newcastle’s goals but it was Fernandez who won them the points.
It was the Argentine who was prepared to put his head in the fray to stop Joshua King from nodding home an equaliser. It was just enough for King to think about a clash of heads or a broken nose but it was enough.
In the great scheme of things no-one can tell what this result will mean in the final analysis for either team but I sense Newcastle will need these points more than Bournemouth.
Did you know? Fernandez had more touches (62) than any other Newcastle player against Bournemouth and his 35 passes was a joint team high.
