Swiss Journalist Declares International Midfielder Would Be Open To Newcastle Move

Sport Witness have unearthed an interesting comment from Swiss journalist Marcello Pelizzari.

The journalist was interviewed in the Italian press about two of Switzerland’s international stars – Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka and AC Milan’s Ricardo Rodriguez.

Both Xhaka and Rodriguez have lost their places recently for different reasons, and Pelizzari was being interviewed about the impact of that on them internationally.

Rodriguez has lost his left-back place at Milan to new-signing Theo Hernandez. Hernandez joined Milan in a big-money move from Real Madrid this summer.

The plight of Granit Xhaka has been well-publicized since he made antagonistic gestures towards Arsenal fans when being substituted against Crystal Palace a few weeks ago. Xhaka was stripped of his captaincy and has not been involved for the Gunners since.

This is what the journalist had to say about the Swiss midfielder’s options:

“At this moment, Xhaka has various options on the table. There’s been talk of Newcastle, which would be a welcome solution, because he can remain in the Premier League.”

The journalist also mentions other options for the 27-year-old defensive midfielder with Dortmund and AC Milan. However, it appears as though Xhaka may prefer to stay in the Premier League. Marcello Pelizzari also stated that it is almost a certainty he will leave Arsenal in January.

On Friday, it was reported that Newcastle are interested in bringing Xhaka to Tyneside. Newcastle were originally linked with Xhaka when he was at Monchengladbach before his move to Arsenal in 2016.

There were reports yesterday that Xhaka was house hunting in Milan which may be a more reasonable destination for him.

We still think this is a tenuous link for Newcastle at best. The player is on extremely high wages, which Newcastle are unlikely to match. Even bringing Xhaka in on loan could hinder the development of both Longstaff brothers.

While we think Xhaka is a tremendous footballer, we are not sure he is a good fit for Newcastle at the moment.

This was discussed the other day – his wages will be ridiculous – he’s a decent enough player but not worth breaking the bank for – a top quality goal scorer then maybe yes. I’d imagine the Milan rumours will be true he probably wants to get out of England completely.

Has anyone noticed the NUFC net spend figures from 2016 of @KieranMaGuire (mobile.twitter.com/KieranMaguire/status/1194520526099820546/photo/1)? Do they make sense? Curiously there wasn’t anything from 2017.

The Times are saying 6 months loan to us with Arsenal
and NUFC sharing his wages with Arsenal hoping for reconciliation
with the fans if he plays well for us.
Other outlets saying he wants a clean break and a full transfer to

Jib – what you were saying earlier about the blog filter finding rude words within S c u n t h o r p e – it is because the algorithm looks for the words within strings to stop people getting around the filter by burying the rude words inside other characters e.g. within asterisks. Unfortunately Scunny is one of those words that fools the filter – if done properly you would have an exception list but I suspect this word was probably never thought of!

Not sure signing Xhaka would be such an idea especially if we have the same home fans who booed Perez coming on as a sub at home games….

Adding him would put the Longstaffs further away from the first team.

On the wages I think he will have a hard time finding anybody willing to pay the same as Arsenal. Don’t think Milan would be willing to pay that kind of money, not sure they would be capable.

He’s not the type of player we need, he’s also valued at 40M and is 28, not a hope of us going for him. Its total made up rumours that were interested in him. And as a nice cherry on top he would also considerably increase our wage cap.

Why is crap like this even written in the papers when even the most naive wouldn’t believe this would happen for a myriad of practical and common sense reasons.

I believe he’d come to Newcastle no problem, I just dont believe he’s even on our radar.
