New Report Claims This Position In Now A Priority For Bruce

There is a report in the Telegraph about Newcastle’s interest in Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka. This is more confirmation that Newcastle have a genuine interest in Xhaka.

In the article, it is claimed that Steve Bruce is watching the 27-year-old’s situation closely and believes Newcastle have a chance to land the Swiss international in January.

Xhaka is believed to want to leave Arsenal if he cannot get back into the team. He has not been involved for Arsenal since the incident with their fans against Crystal Palace over two weeks ago.

With the European Championships taking place in the summer, Xhaka feels he must be playing first-team football to maintain his place in the Swiss team.

The report also maintains that another central midfielder is a priority for Bruce in January. He feels that Xhaka fits the bill of what Newcastle need in the midfield. Bruce is looking at other midfield targets as well, according to the Telegraph.

Newcastle have been linked with Strasbourg’s Ibrahima Sissoko and Spartak Moscow’s Alex Kral, both defensive midfielders, over the past few weeks.

We’re not sold on bringing in Xhaka at this point. While he could certainly improve the squad, a lot will depend on how Newcastle fare over the next nine matches before the window opens.

Despite having injuries and suspensions in their midfield, Newcastle have not been lacking in the center of the pitch. Bringing in another central midfielder could also impact the development of the Longstaff brothers.

Xhaka’s age and high wages also are outside of Newcastle’s policy for new signings. We just don’t think there is too much in this link at the moment.

I’m sure your memory’s good about the Oyster Bar, but there’s something nagging about a shellfish shop on Percy Street in one of those prefab-like structures next to Jeavons. That little site was once home to stone built cottages and shops one of which was a wet fish shop. However, an image of a blue and white fronted shop in the prefab block’s gnawing at me and I’m fairly sure that might have been Milburns – possibly before relocating to its Oyster Bar opposite the A-Go-Go. We used to park our heavily chromed scooters in the parking area there.

Not being an avid reader of the DT, DE and Mail I do think that there presentation of ‘news’ is hardly objective. They do have a noticeable lean to the right and their articles tend to be selectively written to influence readers’ opinions. The Mail and Express tend to work the vox-pop.

I think that of the heavyweight papers circulating in the UK, perhaps two (The Indie and The Grauniad) offer more balanced news pieces with their opinions being in the form of editorials or extended articles covering particular topics. That though is an opinion

Clarke has been very vocal in the pre match huddles so could be a great leader if he will stay in the team.

Do we think there will be tickets available general sale for the visit to old Trafford on Boxing Day?

    1964
Mod becomes noticed. 1964 was the first year in which the Mods came to public attention. They clashed with rival youth group, the Rockers, who preferred leather jackets, motor bikes and traditional Rock’n’Roll…

didn’t know the mods were around that early …

Surely a striker has to be the priority or is Brucey going to play the Central Defenders up front ? Come to think of it they’ll probably score more goals this season than our current crop of strikers, oh for a Mitrovitch or Ivan Toney. Wait a minute though !!!

Me a mod mid sixties! Great days on my Vespa Sportique with plenty chrome, front spots, aerial etc.
I wish we’d had camera phones then cos I’ve only got one photo and none of my scooter.
Geno Washington was the man but the music scene was fantastic at the time!

Back on message surely Brucie has to be looking for a goalscorer. He ain’t gonna get 10 goals this season out of the front 3 and the sooner he bites the bullet and drops Joelinton the better!
