Newcastle Confirm Defender Will Be Sidelined Until New Year

In a concise statement, Newcastle have confirmed that Jamaal Lascelles will be out until January with the knee injury suffered against Bournemouth.

The statement on nufc.co.uk does not go into any details on Lascelle’s injury. They just confirm that he will be out until the new year.

The 26-year-old will miss the heavy schedule to close the year, which sees Newcastle play 9 matches between the end of November until the New Year’s Day match against Leicester City.

When Jamaal went off after 20 minutes this past Saturday, Jonjo Shelvey took the captain’s armband. We assume that he will continue in that role over the next couple of months.

Though Newcastle have no shortage of leaders who can step into that role if necessary. Martin Dubravka, Fabian Schar, Federico Fernandez, Paul Dummett, Isaac Hayden, Matt Ritchie, and Jonjo Shelvey are just a few who, when fit, we could see wearing the captain’s armband in Jamaal’s absence.

In retrospect, it’s been a good policy of Newcastle’s over the past few seasons to bring in players who are top professionals. Newcastle have so many in the squad at the moment.

While Lascelle’s is a big miss at the back, Newcastle should have enough quality on the pitch to be able to continue their good run without him.

I know we are well stocked in defence, but he will be missed he has pace for recovery ect, apart from Dummet the rest of our defenders arent the quickest

Robson joined Newcastle United as a 17-year-old, and he made a goal scoring debut against Charlton Athletic before his 18th birthday. Supposedly nicknamed ‘Pop’ due to his lack of hair even from a young age, Robson didn’t look like the youngest man in the Newcastle United side…

We will miss Lascalles no matter what a lot of people say about him the amount of headers he wins especially when we are under the cosh is quite exceptional!

Lejuene although very good on the ball can be a bit dodgy when defending and I do worry about his mobility now after so many injuries! Be better to ease him in maybe get him playing some more reserve games to build him up.

Would stick with Fernandez Clark and Dummett for the next game as don’t want to rush Schar back either

Pop Robson, met him and Frank Clark at the supporters club down by the central Station. They were playing table tennis. I was about 18. Ha ha can you imagine that happening now, with young footballers.

geordietom @6 – The ironic (if that’s the right word) thing about the the Tony Green injury was that if he got it in today’s game it could be fixed with surgery. I think it was an ACL or suchlike type injury – I’m the sure the blog experts will correct me if I’m mistaken 😉

Her dad was a dance teacher, and gave the players lessons to help their balance.

carltoon @8 – When the wife and I were ‘courting’ we once played Stewie Barrowclough & his mate at Pool in the Bowling Alley on the West Road – as you say can you see that happening now?
My wife always claims he cheated as we were winning but then she potted the black so he claimed the win – I’ve tried to tell her we only re-spot the black in friendly games but she won’t have it!

We will be looking for a new captain now that larcelles is out for three months, if Ritchie was not injured I would give him the armband. Can’t think of anyone else who is vocal enough for the job.
