Ciaran Clark made his return for the Republic of Ireland for the first time in over a year in their 3-1 victory over New Zealand last Thursday. Tonight, Clark played in a match that mattered.
A win against Denmark and the Republic of Ireland would qualify for the European Championships. Anything else meant they could be watching next summer from home.
Ciaran Clark was brought in for Sheffield United’s John Egan to start the second half with the match scoreless.

Denmark’s Martin Braithwaite opened the scoring in the 73rd minute to give the Danes the one-goal advantage.
Wolves’ Matt Doherty was able to level the proceedings with a header from a corner in the 85th minute, giving Ireland everything to fight for. But it wasn’t enough, and the game ended 1-1 in a heartbreaking finish for Ciaran Clark and his teammates.
Switzerland did what they had to do in beating Gibraltar 6-0 to win Group D and qualification. With the draw, Denmark got second place and will join the Swiss in next summer’s European Championships.

Comment #3geordietom from earlier, that was the goal I meant. It was a sweet strike made all the sweeter for being the winner vs the Mackems.
Imagine having that kind of dead ball talent stood over the ball though, with Shearer and Nobby as options along with Emre.
Frightening!

Carltoon,
From last night, it’s obvious you’re more in tune with the realities of life than some. Good for you, stay strong.
And
Online (and probably Carltoon’s young man), have a look back to BBC4 TV, Sunday 17th, 1055pm – ‘The Byrd Who Flew Alone: The Triumphs and Tragedy of Gene Clarke’. Musical history, good craic and great music.

I’m sure the rumor mill will reach fever pitch by January. I wonder if there is a study to be done, the correlation of number of rumors vs volatility of posts.
My amazon shares reference was just tongue-in-cheek.im sure jib will treat it as such 🙂

It is sad and disgusting for her to lose her life to this senseless violence but as sad is that kids are growing up in the environment that breeds acts like this, these youngster don’t have a sense of morality and seem to think they can do whatever they want.
As the police officer who led the investigation said lets hope the heavy sentences are a real deterrent but somehow I doubt it it will be.

The realities of life are there for all to be seen – if people choose to look beyond the media that court the attention of those that are sitting relatively pretty. Let’s not worry too much about the poor sods who can’t afford to pay their rent let alone their heating and rely on food banks to feed their bairns.
Sorry all, the society we live in makes me really angry and people continue to fall for it.
It’s much akin to the way Ashley’s screwed the life out of NUFC, fleeced it and its supporters dry and people still turn up at SJP to have their noses rubbed in it’s
Again, sorry for the rant but things are getting me down.

the masses of poor people have fell for the lies of the church government and papers for 1000s of years. cant see it changing any time soon unless those in power decide to invest in equality of education in deprived areas. in the old days the british aristocracy and american slave owners were terrified of the poor learning to read. then they learned to semi control what they read and all was well. the papers and courts will rarely turn on a man like ashley because like their owners hes in the billionaires club albeit a despised uncouth member.

Demagoguery and silly exaggeration and hyperbole
don’t help the situation
NUFC are currently 13th in arguably the best league
in the world.
I don’t think the supporters feel either fleeced or bled dry
and if they do they vote with their bums on seats which
currently seems to be the trend.

Comment #37I think Ashley is just plain too cheap to own a club like us. Simply didn’t spend enough money on enough quality players or hold onto managers good enough to stop us getting relegated twice, and we’ve been paying for it for twelve long years. Hard to quantify the damage those two relegations did to us, but I’d say without them we’d quite naturally be top ten.

Comment #38Rotonda “It’s amazing how 13th is now seen as good”
Not sure anyone said that, but given the state of the fixture list, new coach and having to bed in a whole new front line, I think most of us expected to be lower down the table than that by this stage when the league kicked off.
We’re actually only 3 points off 5th place, which is actually ridiculous and proves that the league is rapidly becoming two separate competitions – top 4/6 and the rest.
So, 13th at this point is a decent start, 13th at the end of the season will be below par.

Comment #40The club may be 13th in the league at present but its in the lower echelons of the premier league.
Apart from the mysterious 5 year plans I’ve seen nothing in 13 years that suggests Ashley is trying to improve the club on any level.
If the odd fleeting visit to the top half of the league and out of the cups at the first hurdle floats your boat Ashley’s Nufc is the club for you and jib.
