Newcastle Watching Breakout 20-Year-Old Defender In Spain

Sport Witness have a report saying that Newcastle are interested in Real Valladolid defender Mohammed Salisu.

The 20-year-old has just broken into the La Liga club’s first team this season. According to reports in Spain, Newcastle have watched the 6’3″ center-back this season.

He joined the Real Valladolid youth setup in 2017 and made his debut for the first-team in the Copa Del Rey in January. The youngster started both legs in the 2-1 Cup defeat on aggregate to Getafe.

Salisu has become a first-team regular this season, starting all thirteen matches in La Liga. Real Valladolid are currently mid-table a full eight points above the bottom three.

Mohammed Salisu– breakout start to La Liga career

Salisu extended his contract with Vallodolid this past May to 2022 and there is a €12m buyout clause in his deal.

Everton, Sevilla, and Schalke are also credited with having watched the Ghanaian in action this season.

While Newcastle are stocked in central defense, they don’t have many youngsters looking ready to make a jump into the first team just yet. There are a few in the ranks like 20-year-old Kelland Watts, who is currently on loan at Stevenage.

Newcastle’s youngest first-team defender, Jamaal Lascelles, is 26-years-old and the second youngest, Fabian Schar, will turn 28 next month. We have been linked with a few other central defenders recently in Preston’s Ben Davies and Burnley’s Ben Gibson.

Salisu is still early in his career, having just broken into the Vallaolid first-team. He could be one that Newcastle track over the next few years to see how he gets on. Of course, the interest in the youngster is very high with his recent La Liga displays.

welshie only posts when his latest girlfriend has dumped him and then only in the evenings or weekends. So lately not only has his new girlfriend dumped him but he’s been fired from his job in that plastics factory as he’s spending an awful lot of time during the day on here.

Well Clarke and Yedlin are going in to their last year and Fernandez time is up. We have way to many purples in that position so I can’t see Fernandez being retained or replaced. I doubt very much they’ll bring in Clarke’s replacement in a year early to bed him in either.

Much rather we tied down some of our current defenders as they are the strength of the team. But that would make sense and cost Mikey money.

    Transfer Sage,
They should have replaced Clarke last summer with a top quality young CB who would bedded in quite nicely now and wouldn’t be going in to the last year of his deal. They have to stick or twist with Clake, it’s either offer him a new deal, let him leave for free of flog him this January.

Very true, would have been an ideal time to do that.

Personally think they should stick as he doesn’t let us down often, and we really need players capable in the opposition half.

They need to offer Yedlin a new deal as well. The thing is though when they came it was to the Championship and the wages weren’t as high. Yedlin is now a PL veteran and could get himself a nice little wage if he left for free, so we need to sort it out otherwise there’s going to be a few quid leaving for free if they don’t.

Maybe not offering Diame a new deal was a dig at Rafa but if it’s a policy Clarke won’t be getting one either.

Rob I’ve heard hes very racist alright, which is a bit shit, I dont like to think a racist player played for our club. But I suspect he isnt as bad as some people make him out to be, I remember reading something once then finding out it was misconstrued to make a sensationalist story, and he always denied it as have many players he played with.

My guess is he may not be man of the year, but it’s really hard to know these things unless you know the person personally.

Watching back a skills video of his, there was no denying his talent. I think hes a bit better than both of us remember, watching this: https://youtu.be/U5TqtPelQwc

I also completely forgot Pele voted him one of his 100 greatest living footballers until I was reminded of it watching the video. Amazingly he was only 24 at the time and not a household name. So he must have seen something in him to put an unproven guy on that list.

Quite probably a move to show Rafa he wasn’t in charge.

I mean, I get not giving older players long deals beyond when they are useful but He would still bring something to the team and allow us to spend money where it’s needed. But as always with Ashley, he doesn’t think about what’s best for the team just what’s best for the bank balance.

The B.I.G. need a win tonight Jib, the table is tightly balanced for the last round of games, if we win we go through on the head to head I think, a draw means qualifier… Clark should be starting in current form… Ireland lack goals in the side in recent years!

Not saying we’re ambitious in any way but I’m fairly confident we’ll extend deals for Clark and Fernandez, maybe replacing one of them with a young centre back similar to when we signed Lascelles.

I think if we can shift Manquillo (who I don’t mind), Gayle, Darlow and Ki. Possibly Atsu or Ritchie and upgrade over the next couple of windows then the squad starts looking quite strong.

I’d try and offload Gayle in Jan, with Bowen coming in. Ki can go with Xhaka coming in.

In the summer the likes of Colback, Elliott, Lazaar and Saivet should be gone. Freeing up some wages.

Willems needs to be signed up asap!

Next summer should be focused on a goal scorer and getting good competition for Saint-Maximin and Almiron

I’d happily move on both Muto and Gayle in January to pay for Bowen. No problem with either player, but they are certainly good enough to be playing first team football elsewhere and so sellable, we aren’t really using them, and Bowen, while primarily the wide attacker we need, can do what they do aswell, so we’d have more appropriate depth, balance and quality.

Xhaka would also be excellent, giving good midfield options along with Hayden, Longstaff and Shelvey.

Move on as many as you can out of Muto, Gayle, Ki, Colback and Saivet, maybe also Manquillo, send Matty Longstaff out on loan, and bring in Bowen and Xhaka.

Do this we’ll be a notch better group, and it’ll also help Bruce win over a few more fans. Bruce can’t win here unless he’s backed.
