Pundit Disregards Recent Form In Predicting Newcastle At Aston Villa

BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has given his Premier League predictions for this weekend’s matches. For Newcastle’s trip to Aston Villa, he surprisingly has the Villains winning to 2-0.

This is what Lawrenson had to say about the match:

Former Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce returns to Villa Park with his Newcastle on a good little run, after taking seven points from their past three games.

It was not long ago that you could say the same about Villa, who went on an identical run at the start of October, but they have lost their past three league games.

Villa have not really recovered from losing so late on against Liverpool, and the past few weeks have been a bit of reality check for them.

That is what life is like for a promoted team, with as many downs as ups, but I think Villa will be smiling again on Monday night.

This is a bit surprising for us as Aston Villa have lost their last three Premier League matches and are hovering just above the relegation zone in 17th.

They did, however, face some stiff competition in those three defeats at Wolves and Manchester City with a home loss to Liverpool sandwiched in between.

Newcastle are on an excellent run of form with seven points over their past three matches including two straight wins. We also have ten points over our last five games, which has helped us climb to 13th and four points ahead of Aston Villa.

We disagree with Lawro on this one and see Newcastle at least getting a result at Villa Park on Monday.

Rob leenio, let me be more accurate. There is a cluster of utter numpties, maybe 10, on this blog , but the majority of guys on the blog are grand, in my opinion. Otherwise I wouldnt waste my time with it. You are in the majority camp and apologies if u were offended.

    Mr Tuff

In the last couple of games I was of the opinion that Joelinton won more of the headed duels than he lost and held up the play for the rest of the team more than adequately, that’s how i saw it anyway. As I said after the game he did the job he was expected to, just needs to add some goals, same as the rest of the forwards!

Like Ando said tonight on Total Sport, after a couple of wins you feel like you can go to Villa and should be winning, where as when you getting poor results you dread going somewhere.

Listening to St Max tonight on Total Sport, either he’s telling fibs, Brucie’s been telling fibs or has believed the fibs Churnley told him.

The whole Bruce traitor thing is a bit pathetic , like any manager in professional football they try their best at whatever club they’re at – he was under pressure at Sunderland after we’d thrashed them and he got a lot of stick – do they care that much …probably not – every job us a short term job for them bar Wenger , Ferguson – very few long term managers

Problem with Bruce is that he seems to have quite a thin skin and takes fans insults personally based on his high opinion of himself – not sure why people feel the need to be loved or respected based on length of time they’ve been in a job … All about results
