We did an article this morning about Newcastle sending scouts to watch Monaco’s match at Bordeaux this afternoon which ended in a 2-1 victory for the hosts. The report was based on the following tweet by Scouts in Attendance.
Scouts from #nufc #wwfc #wbafc #Atalanta #besiktas #bvb #atleti #barca #betis #Villarreal #valenciacf #SevillaFC #Alaves to watch Bordeaux v Monaco on Sun..Wolves were linked to 18yo CB Benoit Badiashile in the summer

We went through a few names who Newcastle were linked with in the past but gave reasons why we thought they were unlikely targets at the moment. One player we mentioned was Chelsea’s Tiemoue Bakayoko, who is on loan at Monaco.
We thought the 25-year-old was still sidelined with a sprained ankle. However, Bakayoko made his return for Monaco in the game and played 82 minutes before being substituted for striker Jean-Kevin Augustin.
Augustin could potentially be one to watch as a target. The 22-year-old Frenchman is a product of the Paris Saint-Germain Academy and played internationally up to the under-21 level scoring 5 goals in 9 games. He can also play on the right-wing. However, Augustin did not fare too well on loan at RB Leipzig last season, where he only made four starts.
There were a couple of other candidates from Monaco who featured in the game today. One of them is 18-year-old Benoit Badiashile, who was mentioned in the original Scouts in Attendance tweet as being a target of Wolves.
The Chronicle has a report saying that Newcastle may have been in France to watch the 6′ 4″ center-back. However, his reported price tag could be in the £30m range, so that is a little pricey for an 18-year-old central defender.

In addition to Badiashile and Bakayoko, Newcastle may have some interest in Monaco’s German right-back Benjamin Henrichs who played in the midfield today. Henrichs is an excellent right-back who used to play for Leverkusen before joining Monaco in 2018 for just over £17m.
For Bordeaux, former Sunderland striker Josh Maja played the entire game, and since he was linked with Newcastle in January, there may still be some interest in him.
Aurélien Tchouaméni– 19-year-old Bordeaux midfielder
However, one player we really like who played today is Bordeaux central midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni. The 19-year-old has already made 29 appearances for Bordeaux and is a product of their Academy.
His contract runs until 2022 and he has made 7 appearances for the French under-19 team. He has been linked with Bayern Munich and both Milan clubs in the past. He was substituted for in the 87th minute in this match.

There was a lot of young talent on display in Bordeaux this afternoon and no shortage of potential targets for Newcastle scouts to take a look at.
