Clark, Dummett, And Shelvey All Gets Starts At Aston Villa

Here is the team Steve Bruce has selected to face Aston Villa this evening.

As expected, Jonjo Shelvey retains his place and takes the captain’s armband. It’s another chance for glory for our front three of Allan Saint-Maximin, Joelinton, and Miguel Almiron.

The back five sees only Paul Dummett come in for the injured Jamaal Lascelles. Ciaran Clark has retained his place, so his hamstring problem was just a minor one. Fabian Schar makes the bench after missing out on the last three matches while Florian Lejeune is not in the squad.

This is who Dean Smith has selected for our opponents.

As expected, Villa captain Jack Grealish makes his return after a month out with a calf injury. The Villains will try to end their run of three straight league defeats tonight.

However, Newcastle will look to make it three wins in a row and a place in the top ten. A draw will be a decent outcome but only move us up to 12th.

This is a massive opportunity for Steve Bruce to get more momentum as we start a run of 9 games over the next 38 days. It’s these next 38 days that could be a difference between a run at Europe or a battle against relegation. It all starts this evening at Villa Park.

Howay The Lads!

Grealish and Shelvey leading the teams out. Many wouldn’t have predicted that development a few years back.

Happy with that. Defence which did well after Lascelles went off last time out.. Expect Clark to be central.

ASM and Almiron to roast them, just got to take our chances.

When will Shelvey earn a red card, so he can spend the Xmas fixtures at home?

Shelvey needs to graft in midfield tonight, track runners and keep a cool head.

Villa will be taking turns to kick him in that midfield.

With Grealish and Mcginn operating I can see a similar soft spot behind our midfield two as we saw Bournemouth exploit. Hopefully we’re a bit more clued up and ready for such targeting today.

I was hoping to see Lejeune back in tonight but every one of the back 5 have earned their place.
Hoping Miggy can break his duck tonight. Not really concerned about ASM. His goal will come soon enough. I just worry about the pressure getting to Miggy to get a decent assist or his goal because nobody can fault his effort. Also hoping Joelinton can come good cos I think his confidence is also on the wane. That said, I’d like to see Andy brought on earlier cos he’s looked a handful every time he’s come on. To be honest, my biggest concern is which version of Shelvey we’ll see tonight. We still have Matty on the bench but I don’t see the deputy captain being removed regardless of how Shelvey will do.

Neville didn’t exactly set the world alight in Spain and Carragher’s never even tried it but they’re very good at showing how to do it! Don’t know why they go on about Man U, I think we’ve got a better team than them if you take Rashford and James out!

Ben Afri from an attacking sense Andy Carroll has only looked decent or sharp enough in his debut game which I thought he linked up well. Every other game he has come on he has looked very much off the pace and cumbersome. That being said reports of him looking sharp in training etc gives some confidence he can get back to some sort of form.
