It’s Wait And See What January Brings For This Newcastle Defender

Federico Fernandez is likely to get his fourth straight start this evening at Aston Villa. Even before Jamaal Lascelles’s injury against Bournemouth, it would have been harsh to keep the 30-year-old Argentine out of the side after his excellent displays.

However, with the captain sidelined for at least the next few weeks, we would expect Fernandez to keep his place with Fabian Schar also returning to the team after his injury.

Fernandez has become a key member in Newcastle’s change of fortune over the past few weeks. His return to the side after not featuring much over the first few months has also shined a spotlight on his contract situation.

Fernandez’s current contract is due to expire in the summer, and as of yet, there have been no talks held about an extension.

There is an update in the Chronicle about Fede’s situation, and it appears that he is fine with holding off on any discussions until after the January window closes.

The report says that Fernandez would ideally like to stay on Tyneside as he and his family have settled here. However, his representatives want to wait on any talks to see what might arise during the January window.

This seems like a sensible move for Fernandez. He could get an offer that he can’t refuse during the transfer window. If that happens, Newcastle have enough quality at the back to allow him to leave. A lot may also depend on whether he can keep his place in the team over the next few months.

We would love for Fernandez to get a two-year extension as he is such a professional and has proven over the past three games that he is more than capable of playing a substantial role in Newcastle’s success.

HEALTH UPDATE

18 November, 2019

I had three cat scans and a full body bone scan last week at the Rex Cancer center in Raleigh.

The stage four prostate cancer now shows definite signs of spreading (progressing) as shown in the bone scan.

It is as it is – and I accept the condition I am in.

The next step is to begin some new medication that can help slow the progression of the disease.

I was diagnosed with stage four cancer back in early January, 2017 after the cancer had been in remission for nearly six years.

My oncologist Dr. Dhruva and the nurses at the Rex Cancer Center here in Raleigh, North Carolina have been fantastic and all the credit goes to them.

Thoughts with you Ed. Thank you for the update. As horribly cliche as it definitely sounds… Good news, bad news, no news, the constant is that you are still you. Nothing can take that. Keep on being you.

There’s more holes in the plots of those Jack Reacher books than z block of swiss cheese. I bet Lee Child is worth a few quid mind.

    Sorry Bills Son,

I didn’t mean to p*** on your chips. I rushed that last post off because I wanted to go and make my tea. In retrospect it sounds a bit pompous. Soz.

So tell us what was the other ABC word you had in mind.

Two vids released on YouTube by Sky Sports, one is a 12 minute interview with Steve Bruce, the other is a shorter video asking if Bruce has been accepted by the fans yet with a spot from Lee Clark.
