Newcastle Fail To Show Up At Villa Park And Are Down 2-0 At The Half

It was a very disappointing first half for Newcastle as they trail 2-0 at the break. Our defense was hard to break down, but two free-kicks have proven to be Newcastle’s undoing. The lads have shown very little threat in the final third.

Newcastle started off the game by sitting very deep and inviting pressure from the hosts. There were a few nervy moments at the back, but Newcastle were able to come away unscathed early on.

However, a silly foul from DeAndre Yedlin on a through ball to Jack Grealish led to free-kick just outside the box. Conor Hourihane’s subsequently curled the free-kick around Joelinton on the edge of the wall, and Dubravka was beaten at this near post. It was a poor foul and the wall did not do its job.

Just four minutes later, in the 36th minute, Conor Hourihane stepped up again for another free-kick from a Fede Fernandez foul. Newcastle failed to account for Anwar El-Ghazi, who was able to get on the end of the delivery and put the ball in the back of the net.

Newcastle’s plan to soak up pressure and hit Aston Villa on the break has not worked. While the defense was solid in open play early on, they did not get the job done on the two set-piece goals. DeAndre Yedlin is also being targeted by Aston Villa and is struggling.

We would expect Villa to sit back a bit in the second half. Bruce will have to make some adjustments and try to at least salvage a point.

Also, time we count our losses on Joelinton. I don’t see him succeeding, let alone in a number 9 role. Almiron too. My god. Terrible performances today

I’m not blaming Bruce it easy for fans to point the finger. Our players should apologise to the traveling fans and reimburse their money.

AC does what he’s always done jumps in the air and lands in a heap over the hill, your Deluded if you think he’s our saviour, does any body know if these players train together.

Wow how bad was that. Front 3 are totally useless need to drop Joelinton, what is the point of him playing.

Easy what to do to push on see list below:
    – Get Schar back in fast
    – if Lejuerne is fit get him in he is our best cb alongside Schar
    – drop Shellvey and sell him ASAP. If no bids rip his contract up and let him train with the reserves.
    – drop Joelinton for Carroll and if he doesn’t cut the mustard get a striker in Jan who offers something more.
    – drop Almiron for Atsu
    – get support up alongside our striker so he’s not isolated.

    It’s actually not that difficult.

3 f*ING center halves and shelvey drops in with them to recieve the pass and ping balls to the flanks.

What a complete disaster that was. Villa completely ran the first half because of that.

Shelvey stooped in the 2nd half and we had much better control in central midfield but nowhere near good enough.

    I don’t blame the players
This defeat shows how limited Bruce is.
Should never manage in the Premier league.

Whatever camp you’re in , that was a terrible display – difficult to see any of our front three or Carroll / Gayle scoring

Hard to see how anyone on this team could get rated higher than 5.
    Front three particularly poor.
JL doesn’t seem to have any talent that could justify his price tag. At least Joselu didn’t cost £40m (allegedly).
ASM has lost it second half with failed tricks that have the Villa fans in stitches.
Almiron seems to have an epileptic fit whenever a scoring opportunity presents.

Midfield with Shelvey in it is totally overrun.
No one at home when ball cleared from opposition box. Their forwards dropped off the CBs and picked up all the loose stuff.

Defence, the two free kicks aside, bit mediocre rather poor. But they had to work so hard because the bell was in our half all the time. And no Lascalles or Schar meant no one leading

Shelveys positioning is all wrong. Yes, he can pass the ball but he has little awareness of the players positioning around him, either defensively or going forward. He comes deep and tries the long Hollywood pass even when there are other options

Terrible on all fronts, I revoke my earlier get Gayle on comment, but I stand by my get shelvey off comment.
Is grealish flavour of the week? I know it’s the only match today but you’d think he was Messi by the way the commentators were going on.
Carroll at least tried Gayle yeah hasn’t played.
Bring back the longstaffs at least they are endearing they can’t be any worse than wantaway Hayden who’s an attacking mid in his eyes but only is half decent as DM, and shelvey who does aholkywood pass once a blue moon and not much else. The longstaffs run and want to play and offer some thing maybe not yet top quality but they get about like mginn did today, which is what we were missing with a non existent mf

Dumb, lacking invention and just long balls… didn’t like how dubravka in first 10 mins dilly dallied on the ball and gave aston villa fans something to cheer about, then they got the wind up them and started to press us,then 2 dopey, dumb, clumsy challenges around the box, and 2 goals….game was done from that point….poor, poor performance

How piss poor was Hayden? Possibly his worst performance for us

I’m not going to be critical of Bruce as he’s just won two in a row and has us in 14th, we got out thought and outplayed. Somebody said earlier we’re playing like we’re playing against Barcelona, unfortunately it doesn’t matter whether we’re playing Man City or Watford we’re setting up the same. It worked against Spurs and Man U and we got spanked playing the way Bruce promised would bring attacking footballing and now he’s shit scared to try anything different, despite slating the former tactics.

I have to say the foul Yedlin made on the edge of our penalty area, leading to the opening goal free kick, was just appalling. Schoolboy stuff, needless in a tight game like this was at the time He is experienced enough now,no excuse at this level. He just lacks class. He has pace, but is average in all other aspects.

    Well that was disappointing.

We looked as bad as we did against Norwich. Nobody turned up, just like every other time we play against teams we should be beating comfortably.

If Carroll doesn’t start over Joelinton next week then there’s absolutely no hope for us. I have nothing against Joelinton, his work rate is brilliant but he’s not a striker, he’s an attacking mid/number 10 (just as the Bundesliga journalist stated before we signed him).

ASM gives everything but he literally has to try taking everyone on to be effective because he has nobody anywhere near him.

I can’t remember who else played for us tonight because they barely touched the ball but whoever it was, they were shocking.

We’ve played well recently so this is likely just a blip but we were pathetic tonight and we got bullied by a poor Villa side who we made look like Barcelona.

In other news, we’re going to beat City 8-0, You heard it here first.

Two players stand out for me.
Yedlin, what a stupid foul to give away, not professional in any fashion
Almaron , he needs to sit down for a couple of games.
