Premier League Giant Joins Chase For Newcastle Target

Newcastle have reportedly been scouting Real Valladolid defender Mohammed Salius recently. The 20-year-old defender is putting in some impressive displays in La Liga this season, which is his first for the Spanish club’s senior team.

Recently, Sevilla denied interest in the 6’3″ center-back. It was thought that they were the strongest contenders for the Ghanaian’s signature.

However, a few new clubs have been reportedly tracking the youngster. Norwich City have reportedly had scouts watching Salisu, who has a £10m release clause.

Now, there is a report in the Daily Mail that Manchester United have also been tracking the defender.

According to the Mail, Manchester United may have an inside track due to the player’s agent being the father of Juan Mata. They are reporting that the Red Devils maintain a high interest in Salisu.

Newcastle are flush with center-back options at the moment but don’t have any in the first-team squad under the age of 26. In the Academy, there is Kelland Watts, on loan at Stevenage, and Ludwig Francillette. However, both are not close to the first-team at the moment.

A lot will depend on what Newcastle decide to do with Frederico Fernandez and Ciaran Clark, who are both over the age of 30 and have limited time left on their contracts.

However, if Newcastle have a keen interest in Salisu, they may have to act fast as Manchester United, Everton, Southampton, Norwich City, and Schalke all have reported interest in the defender.

Why would be interested about a ceter half unless winter sale has already been scheduled?

Agree we are lacking in midfield. cannot play Hayden and Shelvey in the same team – our midfield consisted of Shelvey who plays as a extra centre half – two yards in front of our centre halves picks a two yard pass off them – either goes back across defence or hits it long.
when he played further upfield for the first ten minutes after half time we ere much better until he drifted back to be a extra centre half. Hayden yes breaks play up but no out ball and he drifted back two.
Other two I’m midfield Almiron for what he was worth last night – weak runs up and down with no end product Saint max plays wide up and down or only outlet last night.

Which last night left a huge hole in central midfield which they were able to exploit time and time again. No one got near Grealish last night able to run the show all game.

We are missing Perez big style as he was the link up player between our defence/midfeild and London last season.

JoeLinton – feel sorry for him no one gets within thirty yards of him and when he does something decent no one busts a gut to get near him.

Villa last night had runners all over the pitch wanting to get involved. Once we loose the ball or pass we think thats job done.

For years we have been slow and static with sideways football back to keeper and hoof – yes solid at the back but going forward very bitty – had Perez and Rondon to get the goals to keep us up.

With no Perez or Rondon we are going to struggle as I cannot see – Almiron, Saint Max, Joelinton, Carroll or Gayle getting ten goals between them

Centre Half – We don’t need a BLOODY Centre Half
We need a at least one creative midfield player and a GOALSCORER first.

    Arghhhhhhh

I haven’t been on here for a week or so as I’ve been busy doing other things. So sorry to hear that your cancer is spreading Ed. I only wish our team could show such resilience and courage. We are all thinking about you.

Ashley, this is why Rafa didn’t want 40M spent on Joelinton. What has the guy got? If you wanted a Brazilian striker Wesley was half the price. Extremely poor scouting there. Almiron looked great under Rafa, he looks totally lost now. Even St Max never really looks like scoring, despite some great dribbles.

We read about the coaches devising set piece drills, it’s a shame they can’t seem to introduce any passing drills. Sorry Munster but I lost count of the number of aimless hit and hope long balls yesterday. We don’t see to have any identity or method whatsoever and always seem over run in midfield. Grealish could have played in an overcoat.

Other teams like Bournemouth, villa, Wolves and even Brighton and Norwich seem to have progressive forward thinking coaches who appear to have a positive and modern blueprint. We’ve had a few decent wins but I can’t see what the long term aim is in terms of what type of football are we trying to play and what do we want to achieve beyond perennial lower mid table mediocrity.

Shelvey played deep last year for Rafa’s tram – don’t know if he was instructed to do but it infuriated the hell out of me – taking two three yard passes off LeJuene and Schar who are quite capable of bring the ball out of defence and passing. when he plays deep the whole game slows down as he has to turn and look up field to pass or go back to the centre halves or to the keeper who had to hoof it.

Like to see both the Longstaffs in central midfield Saturday – maybe bit much but they would certainly give us some bite and movement – as for Shelley and Hayden – looked pedestrian last night as the game went past them.
and Schar back in for Dummett or Clark
Don’t know what to do with Yedlin tho great going forward but defending is woeful at times

Poor performance yesterday, a few observations.

Yedlin was awful, constantly out of position leaving Fernandez to bail him out. I would offload Yedlin as far too often he’s the weak link in the side.

Almiron, I think needs to come off the bench for a few games, Atsu or possibly Muto given a chance.

Shelvey is definately better in a central three, we are crying out for a CM who is box to box and can also see a pass. Sean Longstaff is possibly that option but we need another midfielder signed.

Joelinton, at times he looked decent but trying to make things happen for himself as there’s a lack of creativity in the side and when we are attacking he’s dropped deep so is rarely in the box!! Carroll i feel is pushing for a start now, maybe even alongside Gayle but dare we risk 442 again.

Vs City, wondering if 532 is best, Schar and Lejuene come in with Fernandez, both Longstaffs with Hayden, Saint-Maximin pushed further up supporting Carroll or Joelinton. Willems keeps his place, personally Manquillo starts instead of Yedlin.

Shelvey hardly played at all under rafa when we got it sorted with the 3 amigos and shar got forward more.
Personally I’d like to see 4-3-3.

    Yes you can see why!!
must be in his DNA to sit in front of the centre halves – totally wasted there and a liability tackling

Like to see both the Longstaffs in central midfield Saturday
    Agreed

ManCity have won their CL group but still would like to put
Shakhtar away at the Etihad tonight
SD need something from this match if they are to finish above
Zagreb who play Atalanta in Italy tonight.
Hopefully City will have a tiring game

With our KO being Saturday lunchtime we need to show lots of
    energy at SJP

    My take on game.
Please bear in mind I have a low I Q and can’t spell.
Thought we were poor obviously but also thought villa were a very poor team.
Commentators were Biggin grealish up but England class? Better than say Madison or even longstaff..
Goals from two highly avoidable free kicks.will they ever learn.actually no.
Bit contraversil but I would have ginger jack back in New year.always liked him his only fault is giving free kicks away around the box……. Oops

    Charlie,

The reason why Shelvey doesn’t play further up the pitch is because he has no pace to get back if we lose the ball.

It would only work if he played a 10 role behind the striker/s.

His best position is in a 4 1 4 1 where he plays in front of the back four and sprays it around – but we haven’t played that way since since the Champs season and early on back in the Prem.

Colback is the type of player we don’t have and could have done a temporary job imo until we got an upgrade.

Nothin against Rafa but our dreadful performance last night made me wonder what Rafa has done in terms of recruitment. To think of it, he hasn’t been very succesful in transfers! Only decent transfers he’s done:

    – ritchie (not a fan but decent player)
    – Lejeune (decent player although hasn’t played more than 50% of the games)
    – dubravka
    – schar
    – rondon (not really a transfer)

There are far more terrible players he’s boyght so is Rafa actually still a wordclass manager?? If you sign the following players (for lots of money):

    – ki
    – almiron
    – jacob Murphy
    – atsu
    – selz
    – gayle
    – jesus gamez
    – lazaar
    – hanley
    – joselu
    – muto
    – barreca
    – yedlin
    – manquillo

That’s a very long list of terrible players and really poor judgement by this wordclass manager who’s struggling in China..
