There is an exclusive report in Football League World that Nottingham Forest are going to try to get Dwight Gayle on loan in January.
The report claims that this information comes from ‘sources’ at Nottingham Forest.
Dwight Gayle has just played 22 minutes of football this season at Newcastle despite Steve Bruce’s constant claims of rating the 29-year-old highly.
Part of the problem was that Gayle had a lingering calf problem that kept him out for the first few months of the season. However, he’s been available for the past six weeks and just has not been given a chance.
On Monday, Dwight had his longest outing when he came on for Joelinton in the 78th minute. Dwight just didn’t get into the game and managed only 2 touches.
Steve Bruce has again sung the praises of Gayle to BBC Newcastle and suggests that he could be an answer to Newcastle’s goal scoring problem.
“I do think he's a goal scorer. So, he could be our answer to it.”

We don’t think sending Gayle out on loan really benefits Newcastle too much. He’ll have just 18 months left on his deal in January, and if he is going to leave, it should be for some cash so Newcastle can strengthen the position.
Dwight is a poacher and that doesn’t really fit in Newcastle’s system at the moment. He’s also never really proven that he can bang in the goals at the Premier League level.
In England’s top flight, he has just 21 goals in 102 appearances. That’s a little misleading as in those 102 appearances, he averages just around 46 minutes a game. So his strike rate in the Premier League is better than being just a 1 goal in 5 game goal scorer.
If Nottingham Forest or West Brom are going to come in for Dwight this winter, we think it should be on a permanent so Newcastle can get some sorely needed funds to improve this squad.
