NUFC Chase For Premier League Midfielder Now All But Over

Newcastle’s supposed interest in bringing Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka in on loan this winter hit a massive snag this evening. The frozen out 27-year-old was brought back into the team for their Europea League match against Frankfurt.

Xhaka started the match and played the entire game. This was his first time in an Arsenal uniform since his confrontation with the home crowd on October 27th against Crystal Palace. So the midfielder has not been involved in the last six matches.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery had hinted recently that he was contemplating bringing Xhaka back into the team.

While this match opened a pathway back for Xhaka, the 1-2 defeat against Frankfurt at the Emirates heaps even more pressure on Emery. Arsenal are now winless in their last seven games.

Most of the questions asked of Emery after the defeat was about his future at Arsenal. However, there was one question about whether Xhaka’s problems are now in the past. This is was Emery’s response:

“It’s very good news with Granit. We played well, and the supporters helped him, and I think it’s good news.”

The Emirates was only half full this evening, and the crowd was not too harsh on the returning midfielder. Arsenal fans now seem to have turned their vitriol towards their beleaguered manager.

It looks highly unlikely that Granit Xhaka will be coming to Newcastle in January. Though, in reality, it was always a farfetched proposition.

Never really saw this as a starter so didn’t include him in my running total.

Not trying to be contradictory here but who do you think the Sissoko money has bought, especially as the club don’t do the never, never method of payments?

The clubs net spend on players over the last 13 years was 6 million / year
Just about what we are getting from Spurs

Net spend really isn’t the issue. It’s not too bad all things considered.

The problem has been the two costly relegations and the lack of focus on maximizing revenues, meaning we have had less to spend on quality people to run the club, infrastructure and better signings.

Basically Ashley doesn’t know how to run us properly, or does and chooses not to, and know’s even less about football.

He’s refused to put his own money in, or borrow, when at times it was required, and he wouldn’t pay for his advertising. Essentially I’d say that’s it.

(Obviously don’t celebrate 4th July for obvious reasons 🙂

This was the first year that we could Not all be at home this thanksgiving – so we spent the day in Manhattan to see our daughter. Good day out, but no thanksgiving dinner – got to see the parade though, so was quite nice 🙂

Xhaka at Sports Direct FC is comical. That would mean showing ambition and as we all know this club has none except to try to get 17th with as little outlay as possible.Even if by some miracle they could hoodwink him to come Pat Butcher in his infinite wisdom would probably put him in at right back!Nobody will be coming in when the window opens because as far as the parasite is concerned 17th is looking good. Its a zombie club with no ambition.

Again I’m not being argumentative for the sake of it, but £6m a year over 13 years is £78m and we to date have received a probable £18m from the Sissoko sale, believe it not I get what you are saying but you need to make your points make a bit more sense.

    Happy family day out. 🙂

I think Xmas is just that nowadays as well, don’t think as many people celebrate the birth of a Jewish prophet to the extent they use to do any more.

It’s more Yule in my house, which in the pagan community is more in touch with the Earth and more meaningful to me.

Apologies to to others on the blog who celebrate Xmas for the correct reasons, I’m not trying to diss others peoples beliefs.

You guys at NUST are doing a fine job under difficult circumstances. It’s just a pity that thousands more of our match attending fans weren’t prepared to stand alongside you all. Thousands of the fans who claim they love the club and despise Ashley voicing their feelings about Ashley’s cynical abuse about the club would attract more media attention than you guys are currently getting. But how can those who claim they care for their club be mobilised? Does it need Ashley to murder their loved ones before they’ll join the fight?

NUST needs all the help it can get to rid Newcastle United of its parasitic owner – get behind NUST.

And, if Ashley’s approved NUST to go through the books, have the terms been agreed insofar as which accounts are to be examined, by whom, to what depth of analysis, non-disclosure agreements or not and who’s going to foot the bill? Those points’ll have been considered by NUST but have they been put to Ashley and if so, when’s it happening?

    Detail yes but important.

Maybe Ashley might be keen to have Jib, Just a Fan, Jane, Jeff at aallto conduct the analysis?

Turned up to the last NUST meeting (one with new board)
If everyone stood outside of sjp with the magpie group, then all joined the NUST to make the NUST the largest in the game.
Then we would win, and quick.
I just cant stand by and get mugged off time and time again without doing out about it.

In Ashley’s own admission his decisions on NUFC are impulsive (he used the word emotional, if I recall). Thus there is always a chance of squandering resources, recruiting inappropriately and being in perpetual confrontation with stakeholders (fans, players, managers, …), probably even being unscrupulous. Our always being in relegation battle and getting relegated every so often are manifestations of the disease; they are not the disease themselves as some are suggesting. That even after the disease is technically eliminated its ill effects persist (think about Rangers) worries me even more. That may also be why no dispassionate (as opposed to emotional) investor would be interested in dealing with Ashley and buy an article as small as a team shirt or as large as a whole venture like NUFC.

The NUST have a right to go through NUFCs finances.

The club hold back on announcements.
There will come a time when the NUST will have to speak out if this continues in the manner that it is.
    Enough is Enough.

Yup, you’re spot on about NUST being limited in its actions. On reflection, it’s The Magpie Group that match going fans need to get behind. An hour or two before a match, crowds of supporters building up outside of SJP would present quite an image for the media. I’m not suggesting late entry to SJP, after kick-off, but if fans stayed outside until say 30mins before kick off……..

You’ve created the most exciting PL team, many times. You’re almost always in the top four. You’ve done this on a budget. Your fans want more. You get fired.

Now, those fans are holding little “you don’t know what you’re doing” placards.

On football, you’re predicting too many changes Neil, I believe.

That terrible team of the last game had two excellent wins previously. It won’t be dismantled.

So, you’ve sacrificed Shelvey. Agreed. I’m not a fan, but he has his moments and he’s trying. Still, our MF is below par, even with the new lads in the mix.

You’ve chopped Almiron. Big mistake. On his bad day he’s all running, effort and action. We’ll need those qualities next match. Give me ten (11?) Almirons.

Yedlin. You can’t drop your country man either! The only way to shock City is with quick moves while they have their CBs parked in our half.

Of course, we’ll need to up our game big time to win that one.
