Newcastle are said to be tracking Brighton under-23 center-back Ben White who is currently on loan with Leeds in the Championship.
The Chronicle are reporting that Newcastle are among a number of Premier League clubs currently tracking the 22-year-old.
However, they also report that Liverpool are one of those clubs and that he is likely to cost £20m. We think this will make a move for the 6’1″ defender a challenging one for Newcastle.
White has yet to make a first-team appearance for Brighton but has played 20 games for Leeds this season. Only one of those appearances have been from the bench, so the youngster is getting some excellent experience on his loan spell.
The defender has also spent time on loan at Newport County and Peterborough. He spent the second half of last season at League One’s Peterborough, with former Mags Ivan Toney and Marcus Maddison, making 14 starts.
The 22-year-old also made over 40 appearances with Newport County two years ago, so he gets in the team whenever he is sent out on loan, which is a positive sign for a developing player.
White is a ball-playing defender who can also play at right-back. He is another in a growing list of young center-backs that Newcastle are said to be tracking with Nottingham Forest’s Joe Worrall and Real Valladolid’s Mohammed Salisu being two of the recent ones.

Comment #1Yep, we need a team full of defenders as it will increase our chances of scoring.
