Bruce Gives Update On January Window – It Sounds Painfully Familiar

Steve Bruce was again asked about the January transfer window this morning. As he said about persevering with his front three, he’s also going to persevere with his stock answer on the coming window.

This is what Bruce said about when asked about the winter window as tweeted by the Athletic’s Chris Waugh:

This has basically been the head coach’s stance for the past few months. While we expect he’s just trying to dampen expectations, he could provide a little variation in his response.

We have to believe that Newcastle will be active in the January window. There is a glaring need for a forward who can score goals. The club is also said to be in the market for another central midfielder.

While incomings are definitely needed, there could also be a lot of activity with outgoings as well. There are a few players in the squad who are just no where near getting into the team.

Players like Yoshinori Muto, Ki Sung-yueng, and Javier Manquillo have not made the subs bench in ages. With Ki and Manquillo having their contracts run out this summer, it would be worthwhile trying to get a moderate sum for them this winter.

There is also the situation with Dwight Gayle, who should have some admirers in January. With Steve Bruce committed to playing the front three of Saint-Maximin, Joelinton, and Almiron, it could be that Dwight sees it in his best interest to move elsewhere.

Chris Waugh has tweeted the following update on the interest in Gayle.

The issue could come down to wages for Gayle. However, he has become a frustrated figure on Tyneside with just 22 minutes on the pitch despite Bruce’s constant declarations of how much he rates the 29-year-old.

Maybe it’s time for Gayle to move on to a top Championship side in their push for promotion. Newcastle could then use the funds to help improve the position.

We expect their to be a lot of talk over the next month about players in and out. We just hope that Newcastle can recruit some help upfront.

Heard it all before Bruce & what’s the point in spending, we’ll end up with another player under 25 with zero premiership experience…
