Well, Alan Shearer called it this morning when he said that Newcastle had a chance. He was spot on as Newcastle have fought for an unexpected point against the defending Champions.
This is Alan’s response after the well-deserved draw this afternoon.
Well done @NUFC a good point in the end. Shelvey,Dubravka and Willems ???????? #NEWMCI
— Alan Shearer (@alanshearer) November 30, 2019
While he’s singled out the two goal scorers and the immense Martin Dubravka, our defense was solid despite conceding two goals.
We were a bit aghast when we saw the teamsheet before the game. It looked like we were in for a long afternoon. However, Steve Bruce deserves credit as the team he selected got the job done today.
This is precisely what we needed to lift the spirits after the display at Aston Villa five days ago.
However, there is still a lot of work to do to keep this team away from the bottom three. We’ve got some of the momentum back that we lost on Monday.
Bruce will need to harness that and take it to Sheffield United on Thursday in a critical match.

Shelvey didn’t love being captain on Monday night, he was as bad on Monday as he was good today – typical Shelves in reality
MOTM between Fernandez , Manquillo and Dubs for me

Comment #4I think every Toon fan in the stadium knew that that ball would go to Shelvey once he was not taking the free kick. Funny how the best players in the world did not.
Amazing execution from Shelvey with a Man City player running at him.

Comment #5Sign Willems up asap. Classy player and the impression I had of him before he arrived as too casual and not very willing to do the defensive stuff was completely unfounded. He’s so good and composed on the ball in every way – touch, passing, dribbling, quick feet and finishing.

Comment #6Did anyone see Gayle unmarked completely when city were attacking. He drifted wide left and was standing on the half way with nobody around him. Shelvey got the ball and hooked it over to the right to just clear it but if it went straight or left he would have been through on goal. That’s the difference between joelinton and Gayle as Joel would never have taken that position.

That was in the 90th minute with citeh having committed almost everyone into our half. That’s the reason why gayle had all that space if shelvey had picked him out.
I can guarantee you gayle wouldnt have had that much space if he played the other 89mins of the game.

Comment #10The point is Gayle has the attacking intelligence to see space and exploit it and the natural ST instinct in the box. Joelinton has zero movement. Seriously no better than Joselu so far.

Comment #11Gayle 30 years old 200 games 120 in the PL
Joelinton 23 years old 15 games in the PL
I know which player I’d persevere with –
and he’s not called Dwight

Comment #12But 83 did you not notice Gayle was asked to play in different position to Joelinton. And did you not notice that soon as Gayle came on he had the other 2 forwards right up beside him for the full 20 min. Yet Gayle was still anonymous.
I don’t think Joelinton is anything special and I think he was poor today, but my whole point is there are reasons why he is poor, its because hes alone and asked to do stuff he just cant do.
The minute gayle comes on he gets 2 players right up beside him for support, but Bruce won’t do the same for Joelinton. Joe was bad I’m not denying that, but it’s not him or his desire that is the cause, its 100% how Bruce is playing him.

Comment #13Attacking intelligence that managed to keep him anonymous, playing with 2 players around him for support. Smh
I’m with Jib on this.

Comment #14Joelinton will never succeed in the Premier League! He did nothing in Holland either. It remains a mystery why we paid £40 million for him!
