Almiron, Dummett, And Manquillo All Start Against Manchester City

Here is the team Steve Bruce has selected for today’s match at St James Park. It has just one change from the match at Aston Villa with Javier Manquillo coming in for the injured DeAndre Yedlin.

Steve Bruce has decided to keep with the team from last week despite the poor performance. We are stunned with the team he has selected as we thought Fabian Schar and Sean Longstaff would make their returns.

Yoshinori Muto is again left out of the squad despite Andy Carroll missing out with his rib injury. There is also no place for Florian Lejeune just yet.

Here is the side that Pep Guardiola will put out for the visitors.

We hope the lads can redeem themselves with a decent performance today. It’s definitely going to be a tough game for them to get anything out of. As long as they put in the effort and try to keep the score down, we’ll be pleased. However, you just never know with this team so maybe we can come away with something this afternoon.

Howay The Lads!

Subs: Schar, Gayle, Krafth, Darlow, Atsu, Sean Longstaff, Matthew Longstaff.

It’s just a shame that the most any of them would get is about ten minutes.

Manquillio will make all the difference to the Villa result.

Tbf to Bruce there’s little he can do with that lineup. No way could he justify getting stuffed by shoe horning returnees in there. It is what it is, but we’ve had makeshift teams square up really well to the top dogs before and get a result.

Shelvey is the wrong choice for a match where we need to defend more than ever.

Think Longstaff would’ve been a good shout mainly because of how well he did against the same opposition last time but also Shelvey was poor last time.

Dummet very lucky to keep his place as he was abysmal against villa. Maybe Schaar is still not quite fully fit.

Also see how Almiron fairs but if he starts hiding again then personally would sacrifice him at half time. Think Joelinton is more suited to this type of game than Gayle so didn’t expect Dwight to feature.

Seems to me our coaching staff this season are denser. Under their watch our defense has become looser. That’s why we probably are losers tonight. Did put one “o” too many or miss one out? Apologies if I did. Sorry, just couldn’t help!

Maybe Bruce thinks they defend high and could slip up if we get pace up front and a few decent balls in.?

I suppose the only thing you can say is our defence doesn’t have the passing ability of Schar or Lejuerne and so Bruce thinks we need Shelvey to play that deep role. Just seems like a waste of a player to me.

Well it’s a free hit and Guardiola will be expecting a bus park so why not have the outlet of the long ball up front it’s not like we don’t have pace and it would be a great day indeed for Miggys maiden goal.

The center back three looked unbalanced last week with two left footers. Surprised not to see Schar. Also very surprised to see Shelvey

Man City will leave huge gaps at the back. If Shelvey can find Maximin and Almiron, Man City will be given a torrid time at the back. We all know it’s going to be one-way traffic the rest of the time.

My biggest worry is that the defensive standards may start slipping now. Benitez’ methods will no longer be fresh in the mind of the defenders.

I agree with Tsunki, if you think the answer to all problems is always sitting on the bench, you will never solve the overall problem.

i suspect without lascelles we will concede four at least. i just hope almiron or joelinton can grab a consolation goal to boost their confidence. the trouble with the defensive style is even if we win, we play rubbish, we provide little entertainment, and its usually a fluke with us scoring our only chance and the other team fluffing several chances. pardews team seem like the entertainers. imagine having ba cisse and ben arfa upfront.

The problems we’ve always had in midfield are still there plus now we have a pretty inexperienced defence in the sense of playing together as a unit.

That being said these are the occasions when players have a real chance in upping their stock and sometimes they take it. Also as long as nobody pokes a grass cutter at Dubravkas left post I think he could have one of his blinders today. If he does it’ll be a real boost to our confidence.

    i agree ancient
i think the rot has started at the back. with those three being injured and not playing together they will have lost some of whatever benitez installed in them.

Bizarre that people bang on about grammatical errors on here, don’t think I’ve seen anyone who regularly posts not make mistakes. I imagine that like me, most people type comments on their phones whilst doing other things and don’t bother correcting autocorrect or mistakes, who gives a toss , we all get the gist of what they are saying – the people on here trying to belittle others is staggering and quite sad they have nothing better to add to the blog

Willems with De Bruyne and Mehrez coming at him is going to need Dummett on song
    but
by the same token Kyle Walker could find ASM a handful

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce: “Very quietly, we’ve done okay at Liverpool, we did okay at Chelsea, we’ve beaten Manchester United and we’ve beaten Tottenham, so we are capable. That’s the Premier League. The one thing we are going to have to be is at our best. We’re going to have to play to our maximum and hope that that’s good enough.”

How about formation, tactics, training and workrate. I don’t think Chris Wild would be preparing the ground for defeat like this.
