Loan Lad Fails To Make FA Cup Squad Despite Returning To Training This Week

Elias Sorensen did not make the matchday squad for Carlisle United this afternoon in their FA Cup 2nd round match at Forest Green.

The 20-year-old missed out on last weekend’s 0-0 draw against Cambridge due to an illness. It was thought that Sorensen would be back in contention for today’s match so his absence is a big concern. He was spotted at training yesterday in images released by Carlisle United.

Elias Sorensen– in Friday’s training session

Carlisle just announced Chris Beech as Steven Pressley’s replacement this past Tuesday. It was hoped that the new manager would opt to use Sorensen more than his predecessor. However, today’s developments have to be a big concern for all at Newcastle.

Just yesterday, Newcastle Academy head spoke about Elias’s loan spell to the Chronicle. Dawson still seems calm about the situation. However, he must see an issue with the youngster nowhere near a starting place.

“It is a difficult one for him. Ultimately he needs to try to get in their team (Carlisle).

“Sometimes showing a bit of will can send a message to the manager by showing he is prepared to play in those type of games.

“It’s him saying: ‘Look I am digging in here and working hard and want to play’, so in that respect it’s not a bad thing.

“We are obviously monitoring the situation closely. Shola Ameobi is speaking to Elias and Carlisle on a regular basis.

“We haven’t got any major concerns at this point in time. We will meet next week as we always do with the loan manager to discuss not only him but also the other lads we have on loan.”

If Sorensen can’t break into the team at Carlisle under three different managers, then alarm bells should be ringing. Sorensen made just 6 appearances under Steve Pressley in the league and only a very late cameo under his assistant Gavin Skelton after Pressley was sacked.

Now Sorensen has failed to even make the squad in the FA Cup second round. While the lad could still be suffering from his illness, he was at training yesterday, so we have to hold out hope that he just wasn’t ready to return.

However, Carlisle play at Morecombe next Saturday and we need to see Sorensen in Chris Beech’s team, or it could be time to recall the striker back to Newcastle.

Who Was Newcastle's Man Of The Match Against Manchester City?

  • A. Saint-Maximin (7%, 76 )

  • Joelinton (1%, 11 )

Carlisle are looking set for the Conference next season, If I was the loans co-ordinator I’d find him another club to go on loan to or bring him back to us, at least he’d get some games with the U23s. Perhaps even loan him to Blyth, Spennymoor or Gateshead, somewhere local.

We need to offer Fernandez a new three/four year contract. He’s done really well. Decent on the ball too and can create and score. I believe that we should sign Ibrahima Sissoko, Rony Lopes, Jarrod Bowen and Marega/Aboukabar in January. Those 4 players would transform us. I’d also give Muto a chance ahead of Joelinton. Lejuene and Schar need to go back into the team. By the time we get to Man U away, I would like to see this team:

    Dubravka

    Yedlin Schar Lejuene Fernandez Willems

    Shelvey

    Atsu Almiron Saint-Maximin

    Gayle/Muto

Sell Hayden. He’s not technical enough. Will never score in a million years. Can’t score. Makes the odd good tackle. That’s it.

Late back from the game today. Big smile on my face. Had a look on the blog before setting off… least said the better.
Great performance today. We defend deep – it’s how we’ve set up for over three years – why should anybody be surprised? Sometimes I read the comments and wonder if I’m on the right Blog . Shelvey served up a great goal with a side plate of humble pie. The Longstaff’s are the future but right now, they need to be eased in slowly. They’re definitely not ready to start every game. Shelvey’s playing well overall and deserves his place. We need him to step up when required and he won’t be getting dropped after today either. What a lovely couple of goals from us – and a decent one from them too.
Gave Dubs my motm as he kept us in it at times. Miggy, none stop running again and Jetro was impressive. No coincidence that when Miggy doesn’t perform, neither do we. He brings a lot to the game without goals and assists, although he got an assist today with a lovely weighted ball.
We are what we are, but after a summer of discontent we’re not doing as badly as probably most of thought we would. Good game, decent atmosphere and 50k turned up today. Thoroughly enjoyed by those there. Onwards and upwards hopefully.

Comment #8 Also see how Almiron fairs but if he starts hiding again then personally would sacrifice him at half time. Think Joelinton is more suited to this type of game than Gayle so didn’t expect Dwight to feature

Comment #41 Make or break for shelvey, he has the captaincy and hes getting a run of games, if he doesn’t come good he can be dropped and sold without having a leg to stand on in regards to “senior” player etc . i would much prefer to give the longstaffs game time to develop than pander to shelvey who very occasionally shows glimpses of genius but 98% of the time minces about and points to where he himself should be running before forlornly pinging long balls to the oppositions defence”

I don’t know why you entertain these arrogant and self-promoting ignorami who come back time and time again from these epic gaffes to tell us all they are the well of football knowhow and anyone who contradicts them are stupid and idiotic.

Our defence was one of the best in the league under Rafa it’s now one of the worst in the league under Bruce. There are only 4 teams who conceded more goals than us. That’s kinda shocking considering the standard of defending were used to.

Bleatin as I said previously don’t start sucking shelvey off too soon as he is likely to put in a number of stinkers now he has had his good game then be dropped and not really seen for a few months.

Hopefully he starts ripping up the league which he could do if he pushes up the pitch and threatens the opposition. It’s easy to post something like the above after one good game but it’s about consistency.
