Loan Lad Fails To Make FA Cup Squad Despite Returning To Training This Week

Elias Sorensen did not make the matchday squad for Carlisle United this afternoon in their FA Cup 2nd round match at Forest Green.

The 20-year-old missed out on last weekend’s 0-0 draw against Cambridge due to an illness. It was thought that Sorensen would be back in contention for today’s match so his absence is a big concern. He was spotted at training yesterday in images released by Carlisle United.

Elias Sorensen– in Friday’s training session

Carlisle just announced Chris Beech as Steven Pressley’s replacement this past Tuesday. It was hoped that the new manager would opt to use Sorensen more than his predecessor. However, today’s developments have to be a big concern for all at Newcastle.

Just yesterday, Newcastle Academy head spoke about Elias’s loan spell to the Chronicle. Dawson still seems calm about the situation. However, he must see an issue with the youngster nowhere near a starting place.

“It is a difficult one for him. Ultimately he needs to try to get in their team (Carlisle).

“Sometimes showing a bit of will can send a message to the manager by showing he is prepared to play in those type of games.

“It’s him saying: ‘Look I am digging in here and working hard and want to play’, so in that respect it’s not a bad thing.

“We are obviously monitoring the situation closely. Shola Ameobi is speaking to Elias and Carlisle on a regular basis.

“We haven’t got any major concerns at this point in time. We will meet next week as we always do with the loan manager to discuss not only him but also the other lads we have on loan.”

If Sorensen can’t break into the team at Carlisle under three different managers, then alarm bells should be ringing. Sorensen made just 6 appearances under Steve Pressley in the league and only a very late cameo under his assistant Gavin Skelton after Pressley was sacked.

Now Sorensen has failed to even make the squad in the FA Cup second round. While the lad could still be suffering from his illness, he was at training yesterday, so we have to hold out hope that he just wasn’t ready to return.

However, Carlisle play at Morecombe next Saturday and we need to see Sorensen in Chris Beech’s team, or it could be time to recall the striker back to Newcastle.

Who Was Newcastle's Man Of The Match Against Manchester City?

  • Martin Dubravka (33%, 354 )
  • Jonjo Shelvey (18%, 191 )
  • Jetro Willems (15%, 163 )
  • Federico Fernandez (12%, 132 )
  • A. Saint-Maximin (7%, 76 )
  • Miguel Almiron (6%, 60 )
  • Isaac Hayden (4%, 47 )
  • Javier Manquillo (2%, 17 )
  • Joelinton (1%, 11 )
  • Ciaran Clark (1%, 9 )
  • Christian Atsu (1%, 7 )
  • Paul Dummett (0%, 3 )
  • Dwight Gayle (0%, 1 )

Ritchie is a good backup lb and thats it. You and other claimed I was foolish when I said he was out of his depth in this league.

Ritchie is a workhorse and that is all he is. He’s the perfect example of hard work and determination you can achieve anything. However, a team of Matt Ritchies would get relegated cos there is no quality, that is the reality of it.

A good manager should be signing players that have got quality and trying to turn them into warriors, not signing warriors and trying to turn them into quality footballers.

May as well put the falcons team out there cos they’ll run about a lot too.

Ha sorry Irish I just hammer away on my phone. I think we would comfortably get 12-15m for Gayle given his reputation in the championship.

Cockney no I have always said we need better players in both full back positions but Richie is still a decent player to have as back up in that position no doubt. Irish that’s not a bad shout at rwb as I think he could definitely improve on current.

Cockney I have said the same thing about hard work many times so I think you have it wrong. If you said Richie is not good enough for the prem I would say that’s not true as he’s a good back up in the full back position.

Linty Joe continues his amazing string of matches without scoring a goal! This lad is going to make a lovely profit for Mikey….. errm eventually that is.

Jib, makes you wonder why a better team has never really taken a chance on him. He wouldn’t look out of place anywhere really. His defence doesn’t help him much!!

I had a feeling dubravka would have a good game today, also thought he would suffer a grass cutter to his left but to be fair both their goals weren’t anyone’s fault really.

Thought miggy would be important, but playing him right side…

ASM was a real torment also. Gayle? Well best not say anything. Joelinton? Wait all you like he will never be a striker. Best way to detect it is watch the perfect strikers pass by Miggy across their box and see where Joelinton was. Nowhere.

Don’t think Sheff Utd are all that and we definitely have a chance of 3 points, They’ve been beaten at home by Sunderland ( EFL Cup), Southampton and only drew with Spurs , Man U, Watford and West Ham ( three of which we’ve beaten).

    Definitely beatable

The few times Miggy played down the left wing today he looked soo much better, so much so I decided to check out his best position.

    https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/miguel-almiron/profil/spieler/272999

Even his second position isnt right wing. Why oh why I’d he being played out of position when St max can play on the right just as good, if not better because hes right footed to.

For any side pushing for promotion, Gayle could be the difference. Goal machine in the Championship… not so much the PL.

Very petulant stuff from Lesh. He walked face-first into a ribbing from Jib—coming onto the blog all guns blazing—after not watching the game.

I do not often agree with Jib. But sometimes you have to take a clean swipe on the chin.

Nufc-83 is really finding Shelvey’s performance difficult to stomach. The blog shouldn’t suck Shelvey off just quite yet, as Nufc-83 so eloquently put it.

Mindshaft it’s not that they are all that, it’s that they are coached INCREDIBLY well. I wont be surprised if they beat the piss out of us next game. I’d be delighted with a draw.

I think Hull would prefer cash rather than having to spend most of it on a near 30 year old. So yeah a swap will probably not happen but if it did we would be doing great business.

It’s not like Jib is touchy, reminds me of someone who is happy to constantly take the piss out of others but cries his eyes out when people return the favour even if in jest…couldn’t make it up although he does… a lot 😀

Mindshaft, definitely not mate. Forest are interested I know that and they’re probably a striker short of pushing on. Bearing in mind the possible rewards of promotion, they’d be daft not to gamble.
Then again, he’s going to add goals to any team in that league. Get a bidding war going.

Ritchie is a bit more than a big hearted trier, he can cross a ball, something a little lacking in the team at the moment.

I am also getting a bit worried about Willems, if he keeps putting in the classy performances he might just price himself out of our reach.

Betcha Pep had a good look at him!

I’ve no doubt that Willems came to NUFC to put himself in the shop window as well as a possible move into our ranks. He’ll be keeping his options open and if Ashley shows the same ambition has he has so far, Willems’ll be off if an offer comes in from a club showing more.
