Newcastle will face either Rochdale or Boston United away in the FA Cup. Boston United are in the National League North while Rochdale are in League One.
#nufc travel to Rochdale or Boston in round three of the FA Cup.
— Lee Ryder (@lee_ryder) December 2, 2019
Steve Bruce has said that he would like a cup run but was handed a tough tie against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup in August. Despite having a few players injured and fielding a weakened side, the lads were still able to push the Foxes to a penalty shoot-out where they were ultimately dispatched from the competition.
Now, it’s on to the FA Cup where Newcastle have not fared too well of late. Newcastle haven’t progressed beyond the fourth round since Mike Ashley bought the club in 2007. It’s well-known that the owner just does not care about the cups.
It’s such a shame for a club with a rich history in the competition having played in 13 FA Cup finals winning 6 of them. The last of which was in 1955.
Whether Steve Bruce can change Newcastle’s fortune in this storied competition remains to be seen. Though they should be getting to the fourth round with this tie. Rochdale play at Boston next Tuesday evening for the right to host Newcastle.

Comment #9Another interesting point from that table is that from 2010 to 2018 Leicester spent just over 10% of Man City’s total spend.

Comment #10Everton Vs spurs and arsenal Vs Leeds are a bit tasty aswell.
I’d love for Boston to be the ones to host us, what a night it would be for them. Rochdale too, but less so.
Realistically we got a pretty easy tie either way.

It’s net spend and Spuds have sold some big players for big money, hence their net spend is lower than us. We’ve sold a few but nothunear to them and they’ve built a £1 billion stadium as well!

What’s their pitch like in terms of dimensions and surface.
Also, Rugby League gets played there.
Will there be any rugby games on it in Dec/Jan.
The stadium itself should be sound enough.

No such thing as an easy tie in the cup against the lower league teams, they all usually play like they’re possessed against the EPL sides. 🙂

Comment #23I hope Bruce starts the same side against Sheffield utd. They still have to make up for the poor performance at Villa for me and Bruce seems to think the front three are developing. I would agree to a certain extent but would appreciate it if Gayle, Atsu and one of the Longstaffs starts at Southampton.

Glass half empty half full.
It’s better than Liverpool away.
I would have taken that if offered before the draw.
It’s down to us to play well.
Brucey has to work on some of those players and make sure they know what it is all about.
Some training sessions at Croft Park would be a good idea.

Comment #33Bill, you’re right of course and a more recent result to highlight the point is 1-3 Vs Stevenage.
That said, I’d rather be playing Boston away than Brighton away in a knockout game.

Why do you think that, I always thought that players wages were openly declared.
Or am I just a bit naive?
I suppose there could be a bit of the pre wage limits expenses involved that might give certain players a monetary boost.
