Three Magpies Named In Shearer’s Team Of The Week

Alan Shearer has selected three Newcastle players for his Team of the Week. They are goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, center-back Federico Fernandez, and midfielder Jonjo Shelvey. Hey, where’s Jetro Willems? 🙂

This is the Team of the Week that Alan has selected.

It’s quite rare that any Newcastle players make Alan’s team, let alone three. Though Allan Saint-Maximin was selected by Shearer for his performance at West Ham. Alan also selected Steve Bruce as the top manager that week.

Fede Fernandez was in BBC football analyst Garth Crooks’s Team of the Week for his performance against Bournemouth.

However, both of those selections were for wins. Shearer has picked this Newcastle trio after a well-deserved draw.

It took a total team effort to secure the unexpected point this Saturday. Many Magpies played out of their skin to come back twice after going down a goal against the defending champions. However, these three, along with Jetro Willems, did stand out a little more than the rest.

All three of these players were high in our poll for Man of the Match this weekend. The only exclusion was left-back Jetro Willems, who finished third in our poll which was won by Martin Dubravka.

All three are also up for selection in our poll for November’s player of the month.

Who Was The Player Of The Month For November?

  • A. Saint-Maximin (33%, 328 )
  • Fede Fernandez (20%, 195 )
  • Jetro Willems (16%, 163 )
  • Martin Dubravka (12%, 117 )
  • Ciaran Clark (10%, 103 )
  • Jonjo Shelvey (9%, 85 )

Total Voters: 991

Rotunda, you make some good footballing points but this isn’t one of them…

To be fair to Rafa he didn’t get Almiron till later in the season and didn’t have the luxury of a 60M strike force either at this stage of the season.

The ‘luxury’ of a £60M strike force?

Jo and ASM who are new to the Prem and have scored one goal between them?

Rafa had Rondon who most fans wanted to keep and Perez both of whom were proven Prem players and goal scorers.

Nobody is saying Bruce is better than Rafa but the fact is, and especially considering the fixtures he’s had, Bruce has done well to be ahead of Rafa on points at this stage of the season.

Whilst I like ASM and believe he will improve his end product my jury is still out as to whether he will provide the goals, assists and link up between midfield and attack that Perez did over a season. And Jo is defo no Rondon.

IMO it is fair to compare Rafa and Bruce up to this point in the season and it is fair to point out that Bruce has more points.

And, if Bruce ends the season with more points than Rafa then he will have done better on a season to season comparison.

    End of.

What’s happening with the prosecution of MA you kept predicting?

Where’s the proof KBA is paying posters to PR?

Where’s the proof I am one of Jib’s alts?

Where’s the proof of any of the BS you post?

If Bruce is a traitor what does that make you, a supposed NUFC fan who doesn’t know the most basic of toon songs and who thinks the best place to find a hotel in Newcastle is the Haymarket??

    A froggin imposter I reckon.

Highlights of match show the whole build up to the first goal. I was pleasantly surprised to see Shelvey on the edge of the penalty area with Maximins first driving run, unfortunately he took the shot rather than doing a one-two, which would have probably been more effective.

Fernandez deserves a contract extension. Great player. Clark has impressed me with his technical ability and goal threat. We can afford to get rid of Lascelles. I’d take £30m. Get rid of Hayden and Dummett too for £20m.

Sell Gayle to Forest, Joelinton back to Hoffenheim, release Carroll and give Muto a chance. Sign Mateta, Marega and Aboubakar.

It’s the best crop of centre backs that I’ve seen at the club ever, however, it’s also the worst set of strikers plus we are weak in central midfield since Diame left. Sign Ibrahima Sissoko and Jarrod Bowen.
