Bruce Reiterates Need For Rotation But Is Limited In Certain Areas

Steve Bruce has reiterated the need for squad rotation over the next few months during his press conference this morning. This is what Bruce said about changes due to the heavy schedule:

“We are going to have to. When you look at the games, it is a ridiculous schedule. We will have to adapt and need a bit of freshness.”

Bruce has plenty of options in the midfield and with the back three. We could see some players like Sean and Matty Longstaff or Fabian Schar reintroduced into the team over the next couple of weeks.

However, he is quite limited at the moment with the forwards and at left wing-back. On the wings, he really only has Christian Atsu to bring in for Allan Saint-Maximin or Miguel Almiron. Unless if he wants to give Yoshinori Muto a run out on either flank.

With Matt Ritchie still sidelined with his ankle injury, there’s just Jetro Willems who can thrive on the left. It will be very interesting to see if the Dutchman can hold up over the next month.

We suppose Javier Manquillo or Paul Dummett can play in a pinch or even Christian Atsu but none of those options would be ideal.

We don’t expect to see Andy Carroll get a start anytime soon, but Dwight Gayle might be in contention for one. Though we expect Joelinton to still feature heavily as our lone striker.

Bruce has a load of options in certain positions while he’s constrained in others at the moment. This is something Newcastle should look to address in January.

What Will Be The Result Of The Match At Sheffield United?

  • Draw (37%, 459 )
  • Win (36%, 443 )
  • Loss (27%, 336 )

@IrishRob – I’m not making it up – if you delve into the stats further than the front page you’ll see, you can download all stats into spreadsheet and run your own analysis

    Current estimation: £22.50m £20.25m

He then went up to 31.5 for no reason whatsoever then we allegedly paid 40 million which the club neither confirmed or denied

Yup, Bruce’s limited in certain areas and the question is why? Could it because Ashley wouldn’t strengthen for Rafa and insists on buying players as investments rather than the needs of the squad.

I presume he went up in value as soon as we started sending scouts to watch him

I’d start Gayle tonight, but of course we’ve got a bargain forty million quid striker who has only scored one goal but is excellent at clearing corners (allegedly). That’s why you buy a striker, isn’t it? To be great in helping out the defence.

Anyway the point is that as a striker he’s no better than Joselu
Carroll seems to get a free pass for being a geordie but he’s not much better than Marcelino from a sick note perspective

We need an actual striker and given Gayle is the only fit striker we have I’d agree with SFB – albeit he’s probably not as good at defending corners

If we start Gayle tonight I reckon he’ll be pretty tired by the time we kick off tomorrow.

Still laughing at High Level Rob the discoverer of Transfermarkt 🙂

I see Joselinton has been bigged up for his jostling abilities (when he’s upright of course) and now his midfield defending prowess. Couldn’t we just get a jostling DM instead? I thought he was bought as a striker? Why can’t he just strike? Or has he just gone on one? 😐

Tsunki – did you see this classic from Rob the other day? I’m still laughing about it. He’s a funny kid, even if it’s totally unintentionally.

I used to rock a cream cashmere Ralf Lauren polo neck jumper looked just like Schars with a navy Armani blazer. The girls used to love it. But I couldn’t pull it off quite as well as that handsome ducker!

Not that it matters but transfermarkt.com didn’t actually exist 10 years ago , It came into being 8 years ago but was terrible – it’s gained a lot of followers over the years as it’s data has improved

Mindshaft – I wouldn’t argue with Rob. The bairn is in MENSA you know? Not that he needed to tell any of us, we’d have guessed it from his intellectual offerings on here. So if Rob says that transfermarkt.com was out ten years ago and that we’d never heard of it before he told us, then that’s an absolute fact.

Anyway, he said he spends half his time on there, so his rich and fulfilling life instantly makes us all very jealous of him 😀

It will be interesting to see who SB selects on a game on game basis. Hopefully he will have done his homework and is good enough to suss the other team out.

I really hope injuries do not start to dictate team selection.

It is going to be an interesting run of games for every team and the table is going to be vastly different come Jan 2020.

There is an upwelling down below. Hope we are not caught in convection current and sink downward. Thought the 3 points against Everton was for counting. That may not happen if Silva’s replacement reignites them.
