Miguel Almiron gave an interview to NUFC TV on Tuesday afternoon about a variety of subjects.
The Chronicle have put out a full transcript of Miguel’s comments for those who cannot access it online.
One of the issues that Almiron talked about is the one that has clung to him since the preseason. That is his lack of goals since his arrival last January.
Miguel got his first assist against Manchester City this past weekend after his 24th appearance for Newcastle. It was a nice ball Miguel played from the left to Jetro Willems, who had acres of space in the box and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
His first Newcastle goal has yet to happen for the 25-year-old, but he did finally get his first couple of goals for Paraguay in recent months. However, it does not seem to be haunting Almiron according to his comments on Tuesday:
“I’ve been feeling like I’ve been in good form in recent games and I think both the team as a whole and my team-mates are helping me to improve.
“I am very happy that I can provide assists like this one [against Man City] for the team. I always try to do my best in every single game and bring what I can to the party so the team can keep doing well.
“I just need to get that first goal but you know what’s important – is that the team are playing well. Of course, I’d love to get on the scoresheet and I’m really itching to score but I’m not beating myself up over it either.
“The goals will come along whenever they do and it will be at the right moment. I just try to give the best version of myself for the team and I think that is more important.
“I scored one or two goals for my previous clubs and for Paraguay, I’m getting forward and scoring. So I think when it comes, it will be a very happy day for Newcastle United supporters.”
During his interview, Miguel seemed very relaxed. We believe that he is not sweating his lack of goals at the moment. While it does seem to prey on his mind when he misses a big chance in the game, that is likely just him being disappointed in the moment.
What we admire about Miguel is his total commitment to the cause. He is a constant runner up and down the pitch and always willing to do the dirty work defensively.
It is going to be such a great moment when Miguel finally gets his first Newcastle goal. If it happens at home, the fans are going to just go ballistic.
