Who Was Newcastle’s Man Of The Match At Sheffield United?

Well that was something, wasn’t it? Just 26% possession and 6 shots, but Newcastle take all the spoils by winning 0-2 at Bramall Lane.

We can thank some timely defending and a superb performance by Martin Dubravka for that win and a clean sheet to boot.

Allan Saint-Maximin showed his power as he overpowered former Newcastle youth product, Chris Basham, to get on a Javier Manquillo cross in the first half. I bet Allan didn’t think his debut goal would be anything like that.

Then in the second half, it was borderline whimsical as Jonjo Shelvey was set free from an Andy Carroll flick on. The big man was flagged offside but referee Stuart Atwell did not blow his whistle.

Jonjo, with the cool head, kept playing as Sheffield United players just stopped. He slotted it past a complacent Dean Henderson. VAR correctly ruled Carroll onside, so it was Jonjo’s 4th of the season. We love the little head tap Jonjo made with his finger after he scored.

While it was not a rousing performance, we’ll take the three points all day long. Newcastle move into 11th place with 19 points as they hand Sheffield United their first defeat since September.

Let’s just hope we can follow this up with a win against Southampton.

That would be a better start than I expected – probably better than most expected !

Agreed Bambams. The Southampton game is very important. Need to keep things going now. Four of the next six are at home before New Year but we’ve been there before.

Surrender the ball for 90 mins

Two shots on target in 90mins

    Outplayed for 90mins

Even sitting back they took us apart with ease in the first half, several excellent balls into the box.

9 times out of ten you lose that game.

If you can’t hear the alarm bells ringing or see the warning signs you may want to change the batteries in your hearing aid and get down the opticians pronto.

    Car crash waiting to happen.

Boycott Ashley – It sounds like you are hoping that things go wrong. Just accept what we are until Ashlie departs the scene but it’s unlikely he will anytime soon sadly.

That was a performance today we would see last season under Rafa, but fcuk all was said.

#Boycott ashley im presuming your the sort of guy who lets say has a beautiful wife or at least one who loves and sticks by you and you sit in the corner sullen, shouting aye but your no cheryl tweedy

or you win 100k on the lottery and then say yeah but its not the millions jackpot is it

Newcastle won, enjoy, yes it wont happen every week but when we do take some pleasure out of it and smile rather than instantly going negative and pessimistic, all it makes you is a miserable old sod

You’ve called myself and others negative and moaners for a while now.

In the summer when I said we were taking a huge risk on Caroll Joelinton and ASM due to their lack of goals you called me negative and a doom and gloom merchant.

We’ve been quite lucky the defenders have stepped up so far but that won’t last. I bet you’re praying they start to score soon to say “I told you so”

You’re clueless, you dig a deeper hole with every post, I’ve forgot more about football than you know.

Stick to calling people names and putting people on lists as your football analysis is more like a poorly written joke.

Let’s face it it’s easy to support teams like Man City and Liverpool when they win nearly every week so we have to be grateful for any result we can grind out until a fairy multi – millionaire comes along to invest in us,

    Op

At Napoli, the season before RAFa took over, goals conceded 34, Rafas last season there 54 conceded, Sarri first season 34 conceded.

Its the same as people thinking Keegan was poor defensively, he wasn’t we were either best or 2nd best defensively. Again media played a part in duping everyone in thinking other wise.

Bruce is doing miles better than Rafa, he has more points, scored more at this point and conceded less. And all this with a dodgy front 3.

    Go figure

Andy Caroll like Rondon last season contributes to our defensive capabilities and then adds something to the attck.
Only a matter of time before he nods on a header for Joe Linton or Miggy to score.

People on here have really short memories or are just outright liars….tend to think the second one. Last season a lot on here talked about our ugly wins and how we needed to improve offensively…and we did once Almiron was signed. But hey if all you experts think we can keep playing this way and continue win…hats off to you.

    It ISN’T Rafa’s team.

The back 5 never played together under Rafa and neither did the front 3.

Only Dubs in goal and Shelvey and Hayden in CM played in those positions for Rafa.

    This is Bruce’s team.

    Simple as.

Well it wasn’t pretty, we lived on luck a few times and defended very deep but effectively.

I was gutted when Rafa went and certainly didn’t want Bruce but credit where it’s due, we are doing well. If the forwards click properly we will achieve safety easily.

Survival is certainly not good enough for a club of our size but it’s the norm until someone pays to free us of Lying Mike and his sycophants.

19 points at this stage is far better than expected and if we get 3 more on Sunday then we will be looking very comfortable.

I think Bruce is doing a great job, clearly has the players on his side, dont get me wrong id rather see an attacking 433 but the player are ingrained now after three years of counter attacking football to play that way.

Bruce did try to play more attacking football as he too im sure would rather play in that way rather than a defensive counter attacking way in which we are doing. Unfortunately the game where he tried it it didnt go very well so returned to what the players knew and was safe which is rafas way, teaching a whole different team tactics structure and dynamic isnt something which can happen over night.

Before retorts defending rafa, how many games did we get lucky in the first half and get one goal only to sit back for the following ~60 mins waiting for the bloody inevitable.

I support Newcastle therefore the team of players who plays for Newcastle is the team of players i support, the team of players are currently playing for a manager head coach, whichever title you wish but a manager who also supports Newcastle and therefore the team of players . Collectively they aint doing bad and seem to enjoy the football therefore i can enjoy it therefore i am happy. Dont get me wrong i wish we were challenging for the title and playing European football but the time will come and we must push for it but the way to push for it is support and hopefully a new owner will provide the financial means which in todays game decide more and subsequently allow us to push for that.

In the mean time there are hundreds of teams below us and millions of supporters who would bloody dream of being 9th in the premier league playing against some of the best teams in europe. They would no give one iota of a knats fart if they played 10 defenders and drew every match if it meant they got to play in the premier league.
