Bruce Praises ‘Immense’ Contribution Of Player Back In The Fold

The Newcastle merry-go-round at right-back has seemingly come full circle back to Javier Manquillo. The 25-year-old started at right wing-back in our season opener against Arsenal. After his last two performances, he’s likely to remain there this Sunday against Southampton.

It’s been quite the turn around for the Spaniard. After DeAndre Yedlin seemingly secured the position with his performances since returning from groin surgery, it was a recent hip injury for the American that has reopened the door for Manquillo.

We were admittedly in shock that Steve Bruce went with Manquillo over Emil Krafth for Manchester City this past weekend. Javier had not even made the bench for the previous six matches while the Swede has made every matchday squad.

However, like with many team selection decisions Bruce has made of late, it was the right call to give Manquillo another chance in the team. Despite facing two attacking sides, he has held his own while contributing in the final third.

It was Manquillo who won the free-kick for Jonjo Shelvey’s equalizer against Manchester City. A goal that is up for Premier League Goal of the Month for November.

Last night, Manquillo whipped in a terrific cross that Allan Saint-Maximin got on the end of for the opening goal. His contribution during the previous two matches has been immense.

That’s just the word that Steve Bruce selected to describe Manquillo’s performances since finding his way back on the pitch.

Speaking to the BBC last night, this is what Steve Bruce interjected while talking about Allan Saint-Maximin’s debut goal:

“A great ball from Manquillo, who over the last couple of games has been immense. Great ball and great delivery from him.”

It was a tremendous ball from Javier, and Allan Saint-Maximin did everything humanly possible to get the ball in the back of the net. Manquillo has been superb since getting his chance again.

That has been a running theme with a number of players since the beginning of October.

Game plan worked thanks to dubravka, Bruce setting us up now like Benitez quite simply to keep us in the prem, effort exceptional, but as long as it keeps Mike in the premiership and Bruce gets his bonus, can’t help feel that’s what it’s all about, as usual delighted for our away fans if we get points, but I’m out of love with NUFC, p iss off Mike.

Still puzzled as to why Krafth was given preference over Manquillo, on field performances show Manquillo as better at the moment.

I would like to think Andy Carroll will keep his place against Southampton. Thoroughly enjoyed the win against Sheffield Utd; only somewhat concerned about the long-term prospects if the side keeps squandering so much possession.

I’m sure Ron Knee will be enjoying the new Jonathan Pie video. Certainly know I did.

Like to see us get a couple more wins and a couple of draws this month – 27 pts – even three wins – 28pts would see us in a decent place going into the new year.

Would set us up to have a real go at the FA Cup

Bruce gets more kudos for playing guys who might be second string but are being rewarded with keeping the shirt for playing well. Clarke must be thrilled.

    Mesh,

Just getting on with real life,

It’s quite sad that it’s the same fools who are never happy if you have an opinion, it messes the fantasy time up.

I hope Manquillo gets a run, not as flashy as yedders but gets the job done with a couple of nifty diagonals thrown in
