More Praise For Player In Rich Vein Of Form

A Magpie has appeared in Alan Shearer’s Team of the Week once again. Last week, it was Federico Fernandez, who also appeared in the team for the Manchester City draw.

This week it is Martin Dubravka, who missed out last week to Crystal Palace’s Vicente Guaita. Martin was also in Alan’s team for Manchester City a few weeks ago.

It’s been some run for our 30-year-old goalkeeper. He’s won our last four Man of the Match polls for his stellar performances of late.

Martin, as it’s always said, makes the saves that keep Newcastle in games. We’ve relied on him more than ever to get 13 points out of a possible 18 in the last 6 matches.

Our great form has us in 11th place after the Arsenal win yesterday but we’re still primed to climb the table. Bruce and the lads need to keep focused for Burnley on Saturday, and then it’s another big one at St James Park against Crystal Palace.

Relying on a keeper is no worse than relying on a midfielder to control the game, or a striker to score. It’s his job and I’m glad we’ve got one who’s good at it. Long may his run of good form continue. Just lay off him when he does err. He’s only human

A lot of folks on here with negative comments about the ticket give away.
Still early in the day yes but not many folks saying this is great I’ve got a free ticket for a young family member.

Funny that. When I looked 2 hours after they were stood up there were still thousands queuing to get on the web site.

Well clearly fatty us worried how the empty seats look on sky so the impact of people not going for whatever reason has had an effect …

We’ve played shit football for way more seasons than we’ve played decent stuff – still managed 51k average crowds though

You can say that again Bobby.
Later today we might get some folks on to say just what it means to them.
Hopefully the next generation of supporters will make the most of this.

Are the ten year deals up for renewal in Feb.
Personally I would take this a step further.
I’d cut the price by 20%.

We have been saying for years that we over pay for tickets.

Worthless? If you’ve got one, you can get one free – how is that worthless? 😀 Don’t worry, they’re not for you, and I doubt you know anybody who goes to games to get one free. But you wouldn’t go anyway, so I don’t see what your problem is. Why do you begrudge ST holders getting chance to get a friend or family member in for nothing? That’s pretty bitter. It really is none of your business.

Posada, I took the first ten year deal and mine has been extended to season 22/23, so I can’t imagine the second ten year deals won’t get the same deal. Yours will likely go that extra year from mine if you took it a year later.
This simply confirms that the gate receipts mean nothing to Ashley – as I’ve maintained all along. It’s sky and advertising that brings the real money in to the extent that he can do this.
So it’s had zero affect on him. The seats will be filled one way or the other. He doesn’t care, I don’t know why people think he does.

My work’s Newcastle United slack channel is full of people getting the free tickets via mates and relatives, even other season ticket holders at work.

All kinds of deals going on where people are paying 50% of the price of the existing season ticket holder’s ticket for the rest of the season etc.

It looks to me like it’s working….

Bobby the only reason he is doing this is because he is rattled ,and I mean very rattled as is charnley . Your correct the gate revenue means nowt but sky are asking questions about the empty seats .
It’s now to do with him suddenly caring about fans n families .
Remember when the waiting list for season ticket was 17000 ?
Now we give away 10000 tickets .
Idiots in the media putting out that the only reason the ground isn’t full is down to the cost of tickets ,…. Jesus Christ .
If we had more like gengikai we would have been shot of him by now

Tbh Rob, I think some on here should get one. Some have suffered a complete personality change since stopping going and frankly it’s ugly. If not going to games turns people into arseholes on here, I dread to think how it’s affecting their home lives.
Nobody is going to beat Ashley by not going and this confirms it. He doesn’t care if he gets money for them or not, obviously.

The gate receipts mean nothing to most EPL clubs , nufc is no different , we have some if the cheapest season tickets in the league even before the free offer – the problem is that they will be taken up by people who aren’t that arsed about supporting toon but can’t look a gift horse in the mouth – atmosphere won’t improve which is one reason I stopped going .
Away game fans are the complete opposite , best in the league – our home fans however are probably some of the worst for creating atmosphere ( admittedly there’s not much to cheer on the pitch ) – I’ll continue to go to away games and sing loud and proud to support the team

One fine day, he just doesn’t care. So if it was hurting him, he’s just fixed it hasn’t he? And no, he wouldn’t be gone if there were more like Genjikai. You think anybody at the game even thinks about him, or anybody not there? They don’t. It’s politics and Ashley has just smashed the boycott with one move.
I’m not going to stop going when I love going. I live for my football. Wtf do I care who’s there or not? I don’t even know anybody on here.
Mid table in the PL. No wonder other fans laugh at us. Try being a mackem or a smoggie.

Not long ago there were folk objecting to the “hatred” they got from boycotting fans. Now that it’s working to the point of Ashley having to give them away in unprecedented fashion (nobody sees the shame that NUFC have to give tickets away now to fill the ground do they? ) the hatred is actually working the other way, the fans benefiting from it or even celebrating it are calling the boycotters / realists who see through Ashley as non-fans and saying it’s “none of their business”, and that they’ve turned into @***holes (charming!) Seems it’s ok to throw mud one way only.

The best you can say about the free seat deal is it shows that people can be easily bought. After all how bad can free be? It seems the football on offer is fine and dandy this way forever as long as a win is a win by any means, and we gain enough points to stay in the league.

Mindshaft. You live in London, is that right? Easier to go to any away game from London than a home game. You’re watching the same team. It’s still Ashley’s team. As you say, the money means nothing to him, and he does earn a little bit from away tickets I believe.
It’s football. It’s not a world changing event. You go to enjoy it. I love going to SJP – especially as I can’t manage the travel anymore.
Anyway, its a moot point now. Those tickets will be snatched up by fans who might not have been able to afford one otherwise. Nobody who isn’t a fan will go. I wouldn’t go to SOL if you paid me. Just different faces in the crowd that nobody notices anyway.

Breaking the boycott with one move? A bit premature I think. If we play like this all season and start a losing run it’ll be touch and go whether they can be given away next time. Ashley needs to realise that he can’t go on the same way with impunity. He has to start supporting this club like an owner and not an iron lung.

Ashley has achieved one thing for sure ..lowering the expectations of the fan base .
    Apathy .
Under him we will never seriously compete .we will forever be in footballing purgatory .
As for smashed the boycott ? All he has done is to try and replace the hard core fans who stood up ( you know the ones who used to make the noise ) with a load of free loaders and those who go for day out and don’t honestly give a shite about the result .
He is taking the piss out of a whole city and is damaging the club for years to come .

I have to concede the club Ashley have outmanouevered me. The most powerful form of protest I thought was to withdraw your support of the regime by not attending. He has now effectively silenced that form of visible dissent. If you think that’s a good thing then that’s up to you.

That aside I think it’s a huge embarrassment and we’d mock any other club doing it. If I had paid for my season ticket I’d be royally p*ssed off. Mathematically a maximum of 1 in 4 can derive the benefit of an additional free ticket. The rest may be aggrieved.

He’s presumably hoping to lure new long term paying wallpaper I mean support in the ground as backdrop to his low rent brands advertising.

Stop being so sanctimonious Tsunki. People who make veiled threats to people in wheelchairs are the biggest arseholes on the planet. You’ve never gone anyway, not whilst I’ve been on here. And if you stopped before that, it didn’t take much to drive you away – a few bad years under a crap owner. You don’t always watch on the TV ffs.
Go. Don’t go. It means absolutely NOTHING to me. I couldn’t possibly care less what strange names on a blog do. Why do you? What business is it of yours? None. You’re not a boycotter, you’re just a none attending name on a blog. How many times do the same people have to let us know they’ve stopped going? Every time it’s mentioned it about attention. The notion that anybody loves the team so much they have to stop going is the most ludicrous claim I’ve ever heard.

It’s a manoeuvre Trent but a desperate one. A few things have to align for this to work for Ashley. The team will have to play better and will have to continue to get results or threaten to win something. The new “fans” will have to step up from the shadows and become hard core, loud, singing, vocal regular attendees. They will also have to be motivated to pay money to renew next season.

If that doesn’t work it will probably mean not just the freebies will drift away but even more of the regulars. Ashley needs to do a bit more, like properly support the club in the transfer market. Get a manager we deserve for our level. That sort of thing.
